Could one of our thinning number of ATC College pruners down south please advise whether the PR on the AVNET today is true?

In announcing TFN's pet project opening by KEV07's AA MIN for Aviation to show the organization's commitment to ATC Training, (tongue firmly in cheek), it says operational training has been happening since last November.

Is this true or a bunch of pork pies? What operational training has the new SIM been performing?? Has it been really used already to train abinitios or controllers from TMA/ENR?

If AsA were really serious about ATC numbers they would have scheduled at least one TWR streamed course next year to utilise the great technology...why is it not so??

Or will it be a white elephant just to impress the VIPs and politicians?

There should be another enroute course starting around June which they are soon to conduct interviews for (of which I will be one).

Presumably, that means no room at the college for a Tower course in the immediate future.

In December a ML TCU controller was cross trained for Tower and did not use said sim...

I can only assume that it is not yet working (or not yet staffed to work :))

They should invite the Minister to one of KMc's open staff forums. That'd be an eye opener!

Wow - an article in the local paper hailing this new ATC sim provides some interesting figures quoted by the CEO himself. Is he just pulling numbers out of the air?

“It is a critical part of meeting the shortage of air traffic controllers that are emerging. We need to train more of them,” Mr Russell said.

The technology is an Australian first, and Airservices hopes to train more than 100 air traffic controllers each year.

“We are taking a number of recruits from overseas. At the moment we have about 25 air traffic controllers from other parts of the world …but we know that isn’t going to be enough, we have to get people locally.”

If anyone REALLY wants to see a "state-of-the-art" Tower SIM, there's a really good one at the Singapore Aviation Academy. I saw it last year and, having also been in the REAL Tower, I honestly couldn't tell the difference because the all-round graphics were so good. About the only give-away was that the simulated A380 looked a bit like a Guppy. :(

This SIM can even give you an enthralling view from the front seat of an RFF vehicle - it's so real that you actually get a sensation of speed, especially when the simulated vehicle is turning! I took some videos while I was there and they STILL give me the same impressions.

Perhaps this is what AsA is trying to do?
Nah...
