I am a flying instructor in Australia and am visiting the island of Santorini, in Greece in early May with my family.

Can anyone advise if it is possible to hire a six seat twin or single from the island. I have flown most Cessna and Piper twins as well as Partenavia. My total time is 14000 hrs and I'm instrument rated.

Thanks in advance

Hi there! I am not an owner but I can give you some information. You may contact Panaero international (tel.01-9645272). They have a Seneca. Also, try Aeroservices (tel.01-6844633,6845094) they operate Tampicos/Trinidads/Tompagos. Last one, is Global aviation(tel.01-6815050).If I am not mistaken they rent Pipers, altough I do not know which types.

Sorry... I forgot to mention that these flying clubs are based in Athens. I am not sure if you will find anything on the island.
Most of the flying clubs operate from Marathon airport (1 hour drive from athens) while few from Athens Intl. airport.

Is it easy to rent an aircraft with a UK CAA PPL or do you need to validate the licence / sit for an air law exam / check rides etc.? Any info much appreciated!

I think you will be needing a pilot license issued by the greek civil aviation authority. Anyway, just to be sure, give them a call (tel.01-9889001). One thing I can tell you for sure... To get the greek license you must pass a written exam (10 subjects) and a checkride. Eveything is in greek language. One last thing... The cost to rent a 4-seat aircraft(Cherokee,C172,Tampico)is around 45.000 DRS
and for twin-engines (seneca) is around 110.000 DRS. (1 Drachma equals 340 USD)

Further to the tel nbrs above I can give you an e-mail address for Panaero.
It is [email protected]. I used them a couple of years ago to fly to JTR too and they were ok!
They are operating SenecaII and Cherokee6. As far as I know you will need a check flight, but you can get more info through their e-mail.

JTR is a dream place! Enjoy it!
