Prague, transport from airport to city

Visiting Prague in a few weeks for a weekend break - a dozen of us. Any advice on best way to get from airport to city centre about 2100 local? One of us slightly handicapped so anything involving lots of steps would be out.

Very good, fair and cost effective, fixed price airport taxi service, which also has minibuses and can be ordered for your return journey.

You should have no problems at all.

Piece of cake, clean, modern Passats out the front, take your pick. Whole airport is excellent.

Watch out for taxi hustles in the city - they don't always take you where you tell them. Ended up in a crummy restaurant (presumably taxi driver's brother) through this one. Write directions down, the language is very challenging.

From memory, Dejvicka metro station (where the 119 bus goes) has mainly escalators rather than stairs, as do most if not all the stations on the metro network.

Having said that, if there's a dozen of you, a minibus might be your easiest option, and shouldn't be too expensive. As with any taxi though, make sure you fix a price in advance. Taxi drivers in Prague have a deservedly bad reputation for ripping off tourists, although obviously not all drivers are bad or out to fleece you.

Public transport in Prague is very good, and it's worth picking up a map of bus, tram and metro routes in Arrivals, but failing that, your hotel or pension will probably have one. It's much cheaper and more fun to buy a pass and travel around by public transport than to get taxis everywhere.

Enjoy Prague. Despite the massive influx of tourists in recent years, it's still a brilliant city.

Thanks, guys. As you say fixed price minibuses outside terminal, just see dispatcher, super drivers, booked them to take us back again, turned up prompt and got us there quickly (cheaper going back, 960 CZK to hotel, 799 to airport for minibus up to 9 pax).

Strange airport for departure, anybody else going, worth noting that security checks are at the gates, must be some throwback to communism to increase employment? Means you can take any amount of liquid past the emigration check, well worth doing - the first bar you come to is a smoking bar and a real rip-off for drinks - 2 small beers and 2 glasses wine £20, take your own and drink it before you go to the gate.

I've encountered security checking at the gates elsewhere in Europe - e.g, Amsterdam - so I don't think it's a throwback to communism !

Maybe they worked out the fastest way to get people from the entrance to the plane...? A novel concept for London airport users... :rolleyes:

'Throw back to communism....' is security checking and customs control prior to entering check in area, followed by passport control and a further security check. Odessa last year.
