Hi everyone,

Im looking at transferring my NZ license to oz and have been trying to compare the instructor grades and endorsements, however it seems quite difficult when CASA don't have part 61 up for viewing. So was wondering if someone could tell me what the requirement for an instrument instructor rating is, in NZ it is 50 hours flight time PIC signed off by an examiner. Ive a feeling its the same or similar in Australia but not entirely sure so if someone could enlighten me id be entirely grateful.

Whilst im asking questions, i notice the requirement for a Grade 1 is 750 hours instruction and to have had a grade 2 for 12 months, does anyone know if for the time requirement that they will take it from the issue of the NZ B-cat (g2) or would they make it the issue of the Australian grade 2 (which through the TTRMA is automatic). Common sense would say the former but we all know how often that prevails. :ugh:

Thanks!

You will need a Grade 1 to give Instrument Rating training, no minimum time on the Grade 1.
according to the FCL manual, your hours and time as a Cat B should be counted towards the Grade 1. Its one of those things where some Casa people may say one thing...a bit ambigious, but I have alsways found that if you can put forward a convincing argument, common sense prevails.

Thanks for that. What is involved in a grade 1 test? from what i can see its just a theory exam, a brief and flight, whereas in nz its a 2 day and night flying and p of f marathon

Sorry, you are not quite right GA Instructor 977, you DON'T have to be Grade 1 to do instrument training and there are time constraints on a Grade 1.
