As flight crew we realise that the World Trade Centre disaster has had a huge impact on our industry and are ready to make sacrifices where necessary. At the same time, there is an impression that some airline management is using it as a blanket excuse to hammer through policies, and generally stitch up pilots in a way they would never otherwise have got away with.

How about a pprune contest to find the most cynical recent example of blaming changes/cuts on bin Laden.

Nothing new about it, unfortunately. Every senior businessman knows that when you hit a bad patch you put all of the bad news in the shop window (with the help of the accountants). Then you get the credit when things begin to recover. After all, if your airline is about to announce a loss of £700 million, why not make it £900 million - always supposing that your bankers will stand for it.

ShotOne - if pilots can help "nasty" management to make money for themselves and shareholders, then there is no way they will be cut back.
You only get rid of assets that are too expensive to keep or not earning their keep. If you're not wanted, ShotOne, it's because you're not productive enough. May not be your fault - but that's life and you'd do exactly the same if you ran the company.
