Shock at cabin crew conditions.

In the days following last month's one-day strike of Aer Lingus cabin crew ,other IMPACT members, media commentators and the wider public were shocked to hear just how shabbily Aer Lingus treated its staff.
IMPACTS Deputy General Secretary Shay Cody slammed the company, which claims cabin crew are among its greatest assets ."Cabin crew are the public face of the company and they play a vital role in air line safety.Yet the company has treated them appallingly over the years .That's all about to chanage," he said.
In the days immediately prior to the stoppage the company launched a fierce public relations offensive against IMPACT cabin crew members ,falsely claiming that the strike was not about pay and that staff wanted the company to negotiate on inter-union relations with SIPTU there old union who 1500 left in July leaving only 150 still in SIPTU.
But scores of cabin crew took to the airwaves to tell the public what the dispute was really about, the strike ended with a massive rain-sodden march on Aer Lingus head office ,where cabin crew handed in a letter to Chief Executive Michael Foley, confirming that the union wanted immediate talks.

Scince then ,IMPACTS Aer Lingus cabin crew committee has slammed slow progress on negotiations on pay, pensions and temporary contracts ,which got underway in the Labour Relations Commission (LRC).
The chair of IMPACTS cabin crew branch ,said:"Cabin crew made a stand and things will never be the same again. But progress has been slow in talks.Effectively ,we have had just a few hours in the labour relations commission(LRC)and Aer Lingus is still resisting serious negotiations on our appalling pay and conditions. The union had gone to talks determined to win progress on the issues that really mattered to our members.
After our members show of commitment last month,i am confident we will get a satisfactory outcome on pay, pensions and temporary contracts and on all other outstanding problems we are experiencing following our tranfer to IMPACT .We have shown that we won't be fobbed off any longer. If talks fail ,we can remind people of our determination in other ways,"she said.

That all for now ,any comments questions welcome .
