British International Sikorsky S-61N MkII Reg G-BFFJ Emergency Landing

Last night around 1630GMT, one of British International's Sikorsky S-61N MkII Reg G-BFFJ made an emergency landing in a field behind my house in Penmachno.

I didn't see the crew with it this morning, but apparently it had developed an engine fault and is waiting a part for it this afternoon, probably via air! It was ordered to land immediatley once the fault developed.

Anyway there is one shot of here last night, and three from this morning when I popped down to see her. And if anything else happens i'll post it here!

As I said, you don't see one of these in your field very often!

it looks like a very dirty and not cared for machine looks like its been parked there for months

Sure looks dirty, i'm sure last nights hard frost didn't help either!

It does look very dirty, doesn't it? What is all that green stuff on the tailboom - surely not moss?

Just a thought, but the starboard side on the first photo looks relatively clean, and the report from elgan is of an engine fault.

Maybe the mess down the port side is the result of an oil leak, plus a severe overnight frost? Looking at the aft end, the stain gives the impression of being feathered by the slipstream, and the stains all emanate from behind the exhaust.

My twopen'th, giving BI a bit of slack ;)

No1 Engine probably needs a top up on oil? Heaters been in use a lot, then again it has been 'fresh' these past few days. Good effort by the crew to get it down sharpish, before it became a single engine into a dark field landing. :ok:

Poor FJ. She was spotless inside and out when I last saw her a couple of days ago - after a stint of offshore work in the northern north sea.
Obviously a leak or similar has made that mess.

Screw how it looks!! They got it down safe and in one peace and the old girl will fly again.

Eurocopter AS-355N G-STON has just arrived on the scene, and i'm going to see whats going on!

Just got back, and they didnt say much!!

All they said was that there was a small engine fire, and that it should be ok after fitting a part, which they didnt say what. Should be gone when i'll be back sadly! The Eurocopter has just left too.

Just to let you know she took off safely. On further enquiries, I found out her gearbox was in trouble too and that what caused the initial divert!

She looks a lot cleaner here, it was in Blackpool yesterday arternoon

Now that is what I call an oil leak!!! Pipeline gone behind canted fire wall??? Just a thought!
Good job it happened on its way back home rather than a few days ago trogging about the North Sea? Good job to get it down around those power cables!:ok:
