You don't specify what particular aspect of AHK that you wish to learn about.

I could guess the following:

- good to work for
- good at keeping their operation running
- good at.....

If you clould specify then some of the prissiest people in the world will be right on hand to reply.....

Hi Maverick,

company, AHK, is wholly owned by CX. It is a partnership with CX-DHL to operate non-SLF around the S.E.Asia region. 90% of flying is during the wee small hours, with a only a few daytime services. Most of the ground crew are ex-CX or ex-Swire. Most of flight crew are new to CX/HKG, since CX never operated the A300 before. There used to be a pilot technical forum here www.306banana.com/phpBB2 but it has disappeared in a management spy-ring scandal....

If you are looking for flight crew feedback - not sure that many hang around on PPrune.

Not a prissy pilot, but if you want to work for the lowest paying airline in Hong Kong with NO living allowance.... by all means. Also, roster is not good when compared to other airlines. May seem like a good gig initially, but would be hard to take long term when guys across the ramp are getting paid triple for same job (including benefits housing allowance etc.) On top of that, massive turnover with a lot of their captains leaving for greener pastures. Oh and not to be forgotten, a nasty contract signed in Singapore so it will be binding.
May seem like a great opportunity, but at the end of the day, frustration will soon set in being paid peanuts to fly a banana. :ugh:

Hi!

AHK is not that bad considering that you only fly 45-60 hours a month and rostered 8 days working 6 days off or 10 days working and 7days off. It is true that there is an ongoing massive resignations from the company for greener pastures but for those people who decided to stay,things will just get better hopefully. The major points for working for AHK is the roster and you don't fly long haul flights. Lastly, you dont get paid peanuts flying a half peeled banana.

you give a bit of a false impression here:

8 days working 6 days off or 10 days working and 7days off

95% of AHK flying is at night 10pm to 3am...... :\

If you like doing all of your flying in the dark and have a body clock that can handle 10 nights on the trot - you'll love AHK! ;)

Just to update you on the rostering of AHK. You're absolutely correct that 95% of the flights are on grave yard shifts but the 8 or 10 days roster is not everyday flying. You will get layovers on the weekend and some reserve duties in HKG in between. Its very tough if you start on a Monday because thats 4 days straight up and down (arrive in the morning and leave the same day that evening) before you get a layover on whichever port you end up on a Friday morning. Its a good stepping stone for some people who are willing to move on to bigger major airlines if you dont have widebody experience or jet time. Its definitely the best commuting job for those people who does'nt like to relocate their families to someplace else, which gives a good reason to keep them where they are because theres no housing and education allowances provided by the company. Hope Maverickav8tor gets a good overview of AHK if he's interested to join.

air36 is more or less correct, Monday starts are a bitch, max 4 nights in a row, some day flying, if your lucky lots of time for golf and island exploring in PEN, lol. some reserve HKG

So, commuting can theoretically be done the first day of the schedule? If you work Monday, does that mean you start Monday night and could commute during the day?

Theoretically yes, although some patterns start with an early day flight, and some patterns have you back into base for(SIN ) for 12 hrs ,(also ending patterns sometimes return late evening @7PM)so can be a mix,if you dont live there, you would have to have some type of accomodation arranged!

Short answer, Yes, and its hidden within one of the IOSA checklist items,been awhile since I've had a look at the checklists, but it's probably under ORG, and specifically key personnel turnover.

Anyone know of plans a foot to reduce the mass exit of AHK pilots?
Most Co's would act to slow this situation down as the replacement costs in today's "more jobs than ever" would be more arduous than paying more to keep the current crew in the first place.
Have an opertunity to go along for an interview but my 'bros' here have me concerned, for that I am actually grateful.

Just recently got invited to interview at AHK. Apparently upgrade is about 3 years. Which is great for a wide body! Pay maybe peanuts to you guys but it sure is a RAISE for me, flying for a regional in the U.S making 23 000 per year!

Don't look at the negatives. Every company has them. Instead I look at HKG and SIN as another chapter in my life.

Good stories to tell the grand kids on day :)

Make sure you bring a fistful of bags of money when you move to SIN, you'll need it!You'l be working for "free" the first 5 yrs, lol
BTW those are my calculations, if your single figure 3 yrs at " free " rates
