View Full Version : As useful as an old door

Remember the advice in the 60s when preparing yourself for an 'expected' atomic blast....

'Get yourself an old door and some sandbags, lean the door up against a wall and pile the sandbags against it. Then crawl underneath it along with your tins of food you've been saving'.

UK TV advice tonight should the we re-experience the floods of this summer.....whilst some of the thousands of folks are spending this Christmas still in caravans......

'Get yourself prepared with an emergency kit, you'll need a first aid kit, a torch, some rubber gloves because the water will be very dirty, some wet wipes' ....... said the reporter. There were other things just as useful, but my memory fails me!

Right, you've just come downstairs and your settee is floating on 5 foot of rancid dirty water studded with the odd turd or dozen. Forget your boat, wet suit, 3000 sandbags and reach for your rubber gloves and wet-wipes!

Well, OK, that's all right then, we'll be fine, look forward to it happening again, we'll be well prepared!!

Pass my old door would you, I'm sure that will come in useful as well! [email protected]

Its jolly British and stiff upper to 'be prepared'.

But my guess is this comes from some government mouthpeice do-gooder.

Old Baden-Powell would turn in his grave...

They still refuse to forbid any new housing developments on flood plains, they only advise, the people who build em and sell em don't give a hoot if they finish up ten feet underwater, why should they, they have made their wedge..

You could always try suing the solicitor who did the "Search".

Heh-heh!

Maybe becoming an 'insurance specialist' would make a bob or two?
