G'day all,

We have the worlds best driving songs, and the worlds best beer songs, but if you were to put together "the worlds best flying songs", what would you have?

For me:

Learning to Fly - Tom Petty
Living on a Prayer - Bon Jovi
My Hero - Foo Fighters
Theme from the Greatest American Hero - Joey Scarbury
Kick Start my heart - motley crue
Nothing but a good time - Poison
The boys are back in town - Thin Lizzy
Higher - Van Halen

Please feel free to add your thoughts and your favourites!

Happy Landings!

Mighty Wings (Cheap Trick) - Top Gun

Hide in the Rainbow (Dio) - Iron Eagle, it's the song Doug Masters plays when his wingman (Louis Gossett Jnr) is shot down. He kicks some serious middle eastern a$$ to that song. I never knew an F-16 had so many missles!

Dreams (Van Halen) Didn't the thunderbirds use that song? or that song used the thunderbirds in the film clip. Either way.

Fly away (Jonh Denver) (he had a pits and a jet I think that counts)

Leaving on a jet plane (John Denver)

Aces High (Iron Maiden) a song about the battle of britain

Learning to fly (Pink Floyd) the only song I know that has an ATC track on it

... surely someone has to mention ol blue eyes...... come fly with me?

Aeroplane Jelly Song :)

I like Ae-ro-plane Jel-ly, Ae-ro-plane Jel-ly for me.
I like it for din-ner, I like it for tea,
A litt-le each day is a good re-ci-pe!
The qua-li-ty's high, as the name will im-ply,
It's made from pure fruit - one more good rea-son why
I like Ae-ro-plane Jel-ly, Ae-ro-plane Jel-ly for me!

Would anyone care to have a guess when Qantas stopped serving Aeroplane jelly on their flights?? :{

RV6 I should elaborate... there is a certain homebuilt (which had all the appearance of the mating of a 3 wood and a hang glider) that I used to see all the time, which seemed to always be in such a position as to cause the utmost inconvenience to me (including flying so slow in the circuit that I couldn't remain safely behind him in a C150). Hence that aircraft is now firmly assosciatied in my mind with Ride of the Valkyries. Or possibly the Imperial March from Star Wars.:}

No offence intended to any other homebuilt drivers out there! Should have worded that more carefully.:O:ok:

...when I see a PARTICULAR homebuilt flying around...

No offence taken, Capt'n. Have had the same thought myself occasionally when stuck behind a C150 in the circuit...

Only joking :)

Have also been known to listen to Smoke on the Water in the privacy of my own cockpit.

Listening to "Top Gun" music while flying your private GA aircraft has got to be right up there with wearing epaulettes.

The main theme from "633 Squadron" by Ron Goodwin and his Orchestra usually precipitates a stirring of the blood for me.

OK, I'm showing my age a bit. But then, given the number of times I've heard that piece used at vintage warbirds events, I think I can be forgiven. :)

True Dr Oakenfold, but then doesnt the song go on to say "I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings, and coming down, is the hardest thing" ?

As an instructor I can vouch for the fact that coming down is indeed the hardest thing, both hardest to learn and hardest on the undercarriage:eek:

How's about this? Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi Led Zep:

Its all the same, only the Operator’s names will change
Everyday it seems we’re sending CVs away
To another base where the ops girls are so cold
I’d drive all night just to get that job

I’m a pilot, on an Airvan I ride
In ‘08 wanted dead or alive
Wanted dead or alive

Sometimes I fly, sometimes its not for days
And the Boss tells me I must sweep the hangar in his ways
Sometimes you tell the day
By the can of dreaming that you drink
And times when you’re alone in your caravan you realise your uniform stinks

I’m a pilot, on a Scarevan I ride
In ‘08 wanted dead or alive
Wanted dead or alive

I walk the KNX streets, in an epaulette shirt untucked at the back
I play for keeps, ‘cause I’m too cheap to give it back
I’ve never done a real CHTR anywhere, still I’m standing tall
I’ve flown a million scenic pax, and I’ve rocked them all

I’m a pilot, on a Breadvan I ride
I’m wanted dead or alive
I’m a pilot, I got night hours on my side
I’m wanted dead or alive
In ’08 wanted dead or alive

"Wind Beneath My Wings" - Bet Middler

There's one by John Williamson and I can't remember what it's called but the main line goes something like "...... to Weipa away to fly. She was in love with a pilot, and he was in love with the sky" :ugh:

NO, I DON'T LISTEN TO IT. It was one I heard in one of those tourist shops which sell crappy CD's for $45 and you can push a red button to listen to tracks from the CD.

The John Williamson song is Papa Whiskey November and why wouldn't you listen to it? It's great (and I'm not even a native Australian).

"Papa Whiskey November -
in Weipa the way to fly.
She was in love with the pilot,
and he was in love with the sky"

OK, not demanding, but evocative.
