The download button on Google video gives the option of downloading for ipod or PSP but as I haven't either I downloaded it anyway.

The video seems to be in MP4 format so I've loaded a MP4 player to view it but getting the message -

Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported ($80040265)
Restart the program and retry.

I've searched on previous posts and followed the suggestion for some Firefox add ons - however GetVideo seems to be aimed at flv files only and the Google video downloader is for flv or avi but according to the comments doesn't work anyway!

Any suggestions?

"VLC" Media player lists MP4 as a supported file type. Available here (http://www.videolan.org/)
Features list here (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html)

Aren't they FLV format? You tube definitely is, just download a FLV player.

I think the standard format is FLV, same as YouTube and all the others, but I think you need MP4 for things like the Ipod. VLC seems to play almost anything so it's a useful program to have.

It's H.264, which is a flavour of MPEG4: MPEG4 Part 10 or MPEG4 AVC. Most recent players other than Windows Media Player will play it. If you install a player that cheats and uses the WMP codecs, it won't work. If you install a player that has its own codecs, it will play it: VLC & Quicktime, for example.
