Hi all,
Apart from the high cost training organisations, who can give this training and sign it off? Can it be done by a ATPL/CFII?
Embrrasing really as I guess I should know.

Could be performed by anyone approved by the the FSDO which has oversight on your operation. If the instructor is not approved (yet), an FAA inspector will probably sit and observe the training session to get it certified for your operation.

You could also go to a 121 airline (or airline approved training facility such as the PanAm Academy) if your FSDO approves it, should that airline (or facility) would have a session that could fit your schedule. Likely to be less expensive than a "high cost" operation such as "Flight Safety" or "Simuflite"...

You could complete such a course online and have a completion certificate emailed to you.

Efficient, nice, convenient....try a search. I am not able to plug a course, but the one I have used in the past to get back up to speed appeared on the first page of search results.

Good luck, R On

http://www.kingschoolsonline.com/

check it out, fully compliant, and the price, although not the cheapest, will offset any transportation, fuel and accomodation costs that you will incurr going to any school.

As somebody mentioned, the king school can give you the course through the internet, it is about two hundred dollars, but your legal, I did it in 2006, so probably not much change.
