"Tiscali has come top in a customer-satisfaction survey of the eight major UK broadband providers, while BT has come bottom"

I wouldn't have predicted that result, but what do I know?

I notice that there wasn't much of a gap between top and bottom in terms of points. But my experience of Tiscali's Indian call centre, is that it is worse than useless. I don't care whether the staff are university graduates or not, they simply don't understand the most straightforward complaint. And it makes no difference if you speak to them or send an Email.

I was a customer service engineer with BT for over 20 years, I left when computers started telling me what to do, and my few experiences of dealing with what's left of the company since, are sadly very similar to the above.

It's an all too familiar situation with large companies now, try and run them with the absolute minimum of staff, and never give them the time and resources to do their job properly.

O.K. rant over...

If "good" is more important than "cheap", and amazingly enough it isn't for most people, then Zen do things right.

I did consider some of the smaller ISP's. The worry was that many of them would either be forced out by the "Big Boys" or end up being bought out by them, which seems to be happening. All the small (read good) operators still have to rely on re-selling BT Wholesale, so they end up being disadvantaged compared to the likes of Tiscali, Sky & Bulldog who can afford to go down the LLU route. Of course the other problem is the well documented difficulties with changing ISP's and getting MAC codes. Yes I know Tiscali have "form" on that one.... I do, however, have access to 2 phone lines so I could always get a new ISP running first and then tell the other where to go!
