I have just received an invitation to an interview with Emirates in April. I haven't decided to attend as I applied along time ago and I have since been employed with a regional airline. I would really like to hear from anyone who can give me a little insight into what it's like to work for for Emirates and live in the Mid East. Is it safe, has UAE been affected by conflict in surrounding nations?

There is plenty of this sort of info regularly posted on the middle east forum.. .The short answer is 1. the UAE is as safe as/safer than Australia. 2. living here is a personal thing- some LOVE it, some HATE it. 3. it is rare to hear a bad word said about Emirates as an employer.

If Emirates isn't your scene I was just on the Airtours.com web site and they need flight attendants. Getting 29 NEW A320 Airbus aircraft to their fleet of 49. I was there because I knew they needed pilots. They are expanding - plus all the extra flights they do in the Northern Summer - they have changed their name to MyTravel but www.airtours.com still works.. .. .See you in Europe .... can't be all bad???

greetings from sunny sa..... i went for my interview 2 wks ago and the turn out was unbelievable .... over a 1000 people just on the first day... luckily i was there early (7h30 for 09h00) and we were divided into groups of 20 pax for our group discussion. our discussion was about anything that's been on the news lately that's touched us personally.... was great, unfortunately there was one very inconsiderate person who couldnt keep her mouth shut and wouldnt give anyone else a turn to say something. of all 20 pax only 5 got a chance to talk!!! luckily i got my chance, but i had to try 4 times!!!. very important to say something as they rate you on how you interact with people and on your appearance. we were all asked to leave after the discussion and were told they'll get back to us within 4 - 6 wks for 2nd interviews. if they dont call, the application has been unsuccessful. i really hope they phone. they apparently dismissed the applicants in the afternoon as they could not get to see them all.. .i believe it's really wonderful working for them... they really look after their staff.. .i think the 2nd interviews will be gruelling tho.

Hi existing Emirates crew.. .As you no doubt are aware a lot of Ansett employees want to apply to Emirates. A lot of us are in the 30 -35 age bracket. Is this likely to be a problem?

Hi B.Mac. .. .I'm a Wannabe, and do not have any inside Emirates info, but on the Flight Dux website it said the max age for Emirates is 31, although on the Emirates website there is no mention of an age restriction. . .. .If anyone can confirm this it would be most helpful.. .Thanks

Hi there everyone,. .. .i am an EK senior crew from Oz and have been here for 4 yrs. Below are a few tips for the interview processes, this is inside info as a good friend of mine is coming out to Oz to interview.. .. .1. Remember appearance is almost everything.. .*guys - Neat Business attire a must, remember polish your shoes, nails should not be too short and clean (they will be looking), hair neat not below collar length, don't use too much product on your hair, keep it a little natural looking, definitly clean shaven, side burns should be shorter rather than long, DO NOT WEAR RINGS, if so then just simple ring will suffice in silver not gold, a nice complimantary watch that isn't too bulgy.. .. .*ladies - nice business attire again, skirt should be around knee length(not too short, remember its not a modelling interview), try to match your lipstick with your nails, preferably a redish or nuetral tone, make up should compliment your features, don't have wild colours as eye shadow, no dangly ear rings, studs only and one ear ring on each ear, long hair should be tied back in a bun, no pony tails longer than collar length, short hair should be neat and tidy.. .. .Remember folks, they will be looking at your posture at all times. Whilst in group discusions DO NOT take over the conversation, they are looking for team players, have your say but take into consideration other persons views, always thank the person for their view then add your comment.. .. .Ask for clarification if you don't understand something, but nothing stupid.. .Always remain composed, u will be nervious and the interviewers know it, they want to c how u r under pressure.. .. .REMEMBER B YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES as they know when u r bull****ting, Lie where u have to but don't over do it.. .. .that pretty much covers it, i hope this gives u all a little insight and prep's for it. Good luck and i hope this info makes it a little easier for you all.. .. .In my opinion Dubai is a great place to live and Ek is a great company to work for, we really get spoilled over here, we have some fantastic destinations coming up including Casablanca starting on 31 march, Perth and Osaka starting later in the year.. .. .Take care all and once again break a leg.

GO 4 IT. My friend just got into emirates and she just loves it. Her recruitment was frozen for a while when all the **** went down over there but they called her 2months later and offered her a position. I'm sure they wouldn't have if it wasn't safe. If you don't have a boyfriend and like to travel then go for it. goodluck!

I worked for them many moons ago and had a fab time!

There have been lots of changes since then, some good and some bad...

I still have many friends who joined with me and are still there! Fantastic employers all in all.

Dubai is a great place to live, if a touch large now! I agree that it is a personal thing but hey, when you wake up to sunshine most mornings...

Apply and enjoy!

He he he.... here are my daily gossips folks! !http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/bunny.gif

Sneaked into the interview room at Hilton this morning!!!... Nick told me where and when... http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/naughty.gif Cheers Nick!

I was lucky enough to participate, didn't make it though! I was the only married girl (and the oldest) so I kind of know why I got out after the first "round". Quite obvious! Never mind: it's all experience to cherish!

Just in case you were in my same situation: Emirates do not provide "partner" visa for husband/wife/de facto. The only way for your partner to live in Dubai with you is by obtaining sponsorship from his/her eventual employer (or have a UAE passport of course)... no wonder quite a lot of people say goodbye after a while!

Now about the interview: there were about 28 people, most of them Australian with Lebanese, Egyptian and "Middle East countries" background / origin.
Most of the questions (as well as the group discussion) where related to living in Dubai. How is it like? What will I miss/find? Etc.

Two girls (that I know) had previous cabin crew experience (Gulf Air and ex-Ansett). They didn't make it. One of them was absolutely gorgeous. By the way, Nick was the cutest guy (my opinion) but I reckon H.R.s have no taste... Oh well, they don't deserve us anyway. :D

Anyone wanting to have a look at the paperwork we received during the interview is welcome to E-mail me at [email protected]. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/deal.gif It describes working conditions/allowances and other useful stuff about company/country.

Cheers! Keep your chin up!

Very curious to know if anyone else out there had Emirates interveiws, if so did anyone get in? Will be applying soon, although it seems like VB may be the way to go with 40 aircraft on order. Australia's not that big a place.......... Surely they have interviewed everyone at least once by now...............

I fly out to Dubai next Thursday (25th) and am really excited. I worked for Gulf Air for two and a half years and went to Dubai quite often. Its a fantastic place:). Good luck to any of you who have interviews and if I can help at all, please do not hesitate to ask!

Firstly, we started with a video telling us a bit more about Emirates and Dubai, then we had about 20 minutes where we had time to ask any questions. After that, we had a group discussion about "What out idea of good customer service is". After that, we had a coffee break where they decided who was successful and who was not through that stage. We then did a psycometric test which consisted of 187 questions. This is basically for them to find out what type of a person you are. After that, we had another group discussion where we were given a list of people, their ethnic origin, and their ages. We had to decide who we would put together to live in appartments and why. After that discussion we were given a pile of paper and some paperclips and within our group, we had to build a tower. We then had a brief one to one where they weighed and measured us, and asked a few questions about our family life. After this, we had lunch. When we got back, they had another list of who they wanted to go back for the final two to one interview a couple of days later or not. After the unsuccessful candidates had left, we were each given a time to come back for our final interview. The final interview only lasted about 35mins and the questions were basically based on customer service and teamwork. Nothing out of the ordinary. The first day was quite long, but it was fun:) Good Luck !!!

:) Well, all I can say is GOOD LUCK if you are going. So much have been said already. I guess, just like anywhere, either you hate it, or you love it....or you just tolerate it.

I've been here for nearly 5 years and I have my great days and my bad days. But most of the time, it has been marvellous. There are some cretins that you may have to watch out for, as they try to act smart, but honestly...NOT! Like you know....they talk so much, but really, they are not saying anything at all!:D

Other than that...no complaints whatsoever! The interviews have already been discussed about, so there! It can get dreadfully hot here from April until October....the worse is July and August.....roasted!

It's fairly safe here. All that is happening around us is not effecting us at all(I hope!).

Uh...I have said too much. Hope you get thru, if you want the job. See you!

Can anyone from Emirates give me some info on actual working conditions out there? I've dug around the EK website and the forum archives, but can't seem to find definite answers to a few Qs, namely:

1. How are you rostered? Is there any bidding/preference system?

2. In light of the above what are the popular/unpopular destinations?

3. Roughly how many days off per month do you get?

4. What is the accomadation like? Is it comfortable and what are the 'shared utilities'?

5. What are the everyday practicalities of life!!!? Are groceries expensive, is it possible to find western food to cook for yourself, can you get around without a car, can you even afford to own a car?

6. What is the social side of life at EK like. Is it a friendly airline, too big too be personal, cliquey, lonely, etc. etc.

Thanks to anyone who can help, theres lots of good things written about Emirates on here, but you can never be too well informed!

Hi Galley Creeper!!

Well, just a little insight about the life in Emirates for you. I hope I'll do a good job at it.

Anyway, there is a bidding system here, opened from the 1st until the 10th on the computer. You can bid for one popular flight a month, two other layovers and whatever else. You can even bid for three days off wherever you want it. Most of the time, you will get lucky with your days off request.

Popular trips would normally be the long trips eg. SIN/SYD, HKG, three days KUL, MLA, three days JNB etc etc...

You will get 9 days off on a 31 days month and 8 days off on a 30 days month. There are also rest days on flights which depart early in the morning, and for those flights which lands at 2330hrs, they will be a rest day after that, which is almost like a day off.

Accommodation is great! They will place you in any apt available the moment you arrive and you can choose to move to another to your liking, probably with a new-found friend. The utilities are paid for, so your only worry is to watch that phonebill.

Groceries are pretty reasonable here. I would say, a complete grocrey shopping could come up to about 100quid a month. And you will buy bits here and there in between from time to time.

It's pretty safe here. You can walk around at night and chances are nothing will happen to you. But nevertheless, you will just never know.

Cars are so cheap here it's crazy! Even the 2nd hand cars are practically brand new, so it's superb. I personally do not own a car as I have friends to drive me around and I normally hibernate at home anyway.

I hope those were somewhat helpful. If you have anymore queries, please, feel free to ask.

:D quilfaitbeau:D

:) Oooh! Ooh! I forgot!

Don't worry a thing about food. You can find almost anything here, or I suppose...everything!

The crew here are fabulous. Only a few rotten apples but the rest are just fine. They do like to out together on layovers overseas, either to the beach for seafood, or even clubbing.

A friendly lot, is all I can say. And it is most definitely not lonely here.

Ok, I guess that's it.

Anyway, the company will give you a list of banks they recommend. and the rest is up to you. The basic for starters is about USD1,000. Your flight pay and basic pay will be included.
