Win XP. Every time I insert a memory stick an explorer window opens listing all the files on the stick. Anyone know how to turn that off?:ugh:

With the removable media in place, go to My Computer.

Right click the device, open properties and then the Autoplay tab.

For each file / content type in the drop-down list, select "Take No Action".

The next time you insert it there should be no autoplay.

"Should" is a much-overworked word in IT, btw...

Saab, tried your suggestion but it didn't work. Any more ideas?

Thanks, FJJP

When it starts doing that, whacking ESC a few times, and clicking on Cancel a few times usually stops it.

Somewhere further in the "settings" there's one for "never do anything with new media that appear". I don't remember where it is, but I found it when I was setting this machine up, and set it that way.

It's a pain, isn't it!

I had the same problem, used to annoy me no end! Anyway I cured it by doing this:

Download and install TweakUI (part of the PowerToys for Windows XP package), and then start TweakUI.

Expand the My Computer branch, then the AutoPlay branch, and then select Drives.

Turn off the checkbox next to each drive letter for which you want AutoPlay disabled.

Hope this works!
