Well done Cabin boy!!!

Hi Cloudy,

Yes it was through staff cv, Sunstate rung me today and asked if I would like to attend..apparently interviews are being held over 4 different days. I attended a Sunstate interview back in early 2000 but never got anywhere. I asked the lady if it was a group interview session again ( group sessions were still being used up to about 1 month ago ) and she said that it is a 2 on 1 interview. So now this time for once I am like a stunned mullet, I have nothing to say ! And I'm not sure what to expect....I think it will be like the more traditional style ( target selection ) layout which was used a while ago.

And, I'm also waiting to hear about an interview for a position doing check-in at BNE airport, it's internal recruitment only so we'll see what happens.

Hi Cabinboy
Congratulations on you Sunnies interview They'll ask questions like "tell us how you've dealt with an unhappy/difficult customer?" "give us an example of a time you've gone above and beyond a customers expectations?'" remember listen to the question asked.
At sunnies its mainly single flight attendant operation sometimes two so you'll need to show them that your very capable of working on your own and as a team. They're all very lovely ladies , you'll be great.
Best of all 2002 you'll never have to work on the Shorts, eeeeeeeeeeeeeeegggggghhhh.

Santa stop here. ;)

CB,
C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S !!
Give it all you've got, we all know that no one deserves a FA possie more than you, Cloudy, Dreams and the rest of the gang.
Was in Brisvegas on Monday for my uniform fitting, and also found myself a great apartment with a girlie from Syd that was on my flight that starts training on the same day as me... what fate! Getting very excited now... :)
CB, go get 'em in your intervews...just take it easy, relax and let all the reasons why you will be a great FA shine and you will knock 'em dead!
Keep us all in the know.
Cheers
SNI ;)

Oh Dreams !! NO NO NO !!!......if your going to apply for QF in the call centre you should definetley only go for mainline reservations, Qantas holidays is run seperately and without sounding brutal is full of ex bitter travel agents, and without sounding nasty again ...is full of the people who got rejected from qantas mainline res..( i kid you not )....overall the atmosphere in QF holidays is a bit rough and these guys are not kept in the loop as much as the rest of QF.

Please email me and I will only be to happy to supply you with the details for the QF mainline MEL call centre....please apply.....I know someone like you would be perfect....don't worry about QF holidays, it is very different to mainline.

Also - on staff cv it tells you if someone has " manually reveiwed " your resume...I can tell you that since my virgin interview and the recent call from sunstate the cabincrew website does not reflect that it has been opened by these airlines...so be advised guys....it doesnt mean they haven't looked at it.

Hi Cabinboy, Congrats!!! Looks like that little cheer I put in the CC 2002 thread worked!!

Anyway you are going to have to let us know what you are doing different from the rest of us!! This is the second time Sunstate have recruited since I have been on cabincrew.cv-- and the second time I have not heard from them

I think I might just go the old fashioned way and send them a dirty big envelope filled with reasons to recruit me!!! and maybe some chocolate --- although i don't think choccy will go too well through the post with our weather!

ps check your email

SNI,

I bet you looked damn fine in that Virgin uniform on monday ! Which suburb is your apartment in ? Please don't tell me you are going to shack up in the "cathedral place apartments" with the rest of the VB crew ? ..Welcome to the Sunshine state !

Smile - I just keep resending my cv to the airlines via staff cv once a month. This ensures my details are up to date and clearly shows I am still interested by updating my details monthly. That is my only trick of the trade !

Well guys, the countdown has started, the cv is being is tailored to suit sunstate, new shiny shiny shoes are being purchased ( the girls will be checking their make-up off the reflection of my shoes ), interview questions are being rehearsed and skin care and fitness programs are well underway !

pffffft ! :)

WHO'S IT ALL ABOUT CABINBOY? WHO?? GO ON TELL ME!

YOU! THAT'S RIGHT! YOU YOU YOU!!!
IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU!!! :)

Now the countdown begins - you see everyone, it was a few months before my 23rd birthday that I started flying - so naturally, Cabinboy here (a few months short of his) should start flying too!

AND can I just say...PRETTY! THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT! PRETTY PRETTY PRETTY! YOU'RE THE PRETTY ONE! CAUSE YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE SHOES THAT PEOPLE WILL BE SAYING "oh my god, my shoes aren't anywhere NEAR as shiny as his!"!! People will be going home crying because YOUR shoes are soooooo much better than theirs! Oh yeah baby...you better believe it...it's a ruthless wannabe community out there...

And one more thing my friend - ABOUT BLOODY TIME TOO! IT TOOK ME LONG ENOUGH TO GET UPSTAIRS! NOW IT'S YOUR TURN! AND DREAMS, CLOUD NINE, ETC...YOU'RE ALL NEXT KIDS!

:) :) :) I WANT TO SEE EVERYONE FLYING BY THE END OF THIS YEAR! FAILURE TO DO SO SHALL INCUR MAJOR CONSEQUENCES!! :) :) :)

Just remember everybody, four very important words you must say before, during and after your interview...and daily just to instil that extra bit of self centredness:

IT'S ALL ABOUT ME!

And why is it all about you???

CAUSE I'M THE IMPORTANT ONE! I'M THE PRETTY ONE! I'M THE SKILLED ONE THEY WANT! ME ME AND ME!

(I always get this excited when I hear someone has a flying interview...time for a Bex and a nice lie down I think...)

Cabinboy, you are going to have to make some time in your busy schedual to get together with me because......... I have a Sunstate interview too.

I was called yesterday while I was at work and returned their call this morning and have been booked in for the 14th of January!!!!

The lady I spoke to was very nice, which makes me even more excited to have the chance to become part of that team!!

To everyone else keep resending your cabincrew.cv application to show you are interested. When I logged into the site it did indicate that my resume had been looked at. So don't give up!!! :) :) :)

Go Smile ! Go Smile !!

WOOOHOOO !! YEHAAA !!

Did you update your Cv on staff cv like I told you too ? Was it after you updated it that they called you ? ( just trying to figure out if my theory is correct ? )

I was offered the 14th Jan smile but I took 9th Jan, so I'll be able to tell you the gossip.

Ok everyone, thats two of us with Sunstate interviews..........now we need help in finding out what questions they are going to ask us etc etc

CB
P.S - Just bought myself a pair of $195 shoes for the interview and a $60 tie - THIS TIME I MEAN BUSINESS !

smile
28th Dec 2001, 07:59
I was offered the choice of the 14th or 16th of Jan which I read as there still being interview places left to fill.!!!

Anyway I updated my cv the day I read that you got your interview. I really thought that it was a useless thing to do-- I mean I thought that they had already looked at the site and why would they go again--- but they did and they found me!!

Besides it looks as though all the Qantaslink regional are recruiting, every time you log onto cabincrew.cv another one has been searching the database. Does this have anything to do with the rumour of lots of new aircraft being bought at the moment?

keep smiling :)

HOORAY HOORAY! That's 2 of you!!!

I imagine the questions would be very similar to the Eastern ones (all targeted selection, company knowledge type questions). When I last went thru the Eastern one (in April this year), it felt very fierce (question after question being fired at you)...

Those of you who have been to the Results Centre should use the "Mock Telephone Interview" service - REALLY helped me get focussed on my answers etc before I went in!

Those of you who HAVEN'T been, send me an email and we can discuss further!! Hell, I've been thru 11 - I should at least REMEMBER the type of questions they asked! Practise makes perfect and all that!

How is your interview prep going ? I have a few days left and I think I am almost there as far as prep is concerned.

Let them know that you are very very very passionate about this industry. Cloudy, don't give up!!!
The only things I change on staffcv are how long I have worked for my current employer!!! Other than that I just resend and resend. Unfortunatly they don't let you tell them anything that will make you stand out from the crowd, so follow Kely's advice and jump on the snail mail bandwagon- or even the email. Maybe print out a copy of what you have put on the staff cv site and put it in your letter.

Cabinboy -- thanks for your email. I will try to call you Tuesday night for your final best wishes. Nice and early so you get plenty of sleep!!

I have to tell all you guys how refreshing it is to see your enthusiasm..I have been in this caper for over 30 years, and it seems to me that anyone with your enthusiasm deserves at least a chance...make sure you know your airline and all about it is all I can help with ..and NEVER believe rumours in this game! Wait till you see the evidence with your own eyes re start dates, nuumbers being recruited etc. And do remember it's NOT an easy job..it's bloody hard! Have fun!!!!

Iguanahead
10th Jan 2002, 00:05
kely,
Don't worry about the choices you have made, just go for it now. You can't preempt what will happen in the future.
The first thing you have to learn to live with in this industry is that it is always changing, always evolving, and that everyday will bring a new challenge.
I've been in cabin crew now for 14 years, domestic and international, and I learnt really quickly never to assume anything. I only planned to do it for a year or two!
You'll love your new job for however long you do it, and on the brighter side if something was to happen with Hazo look at the experience you'll rack up. And as you know all airlines love you to have experience.
Safe and happy flying to you!
:)

Hi my friends,

Sunstate interview was good - I answered all of the questions very well and was really proud of myself. But just like all interviews you just never know how "they" perceived you, and...what they think of you.

Believe it or not - I want this sunstate job more than virgin, so it's going to hurt if I don't at least get invited back for a second interview. Sunstate are just so warm and friendly - it gives me goose bumps !

I'll let you know the outcome

Hello again,

Well everyone I had a gut feeling that today the postman would deliver my fate (2nd interview or not ?), I know that sunstate are very fast with giving you a response so I sat and waited for the postman !

As the postman approached I started getting very nervous.......then.......he handed me an A4 envelope with Sunstate titles on it.....I knew damn well a rejection letter doesn't come in an A4 envelope.

Oh yeh ! Oh Yeh !.........2nd interview !! woohoo.
Interview date is TBA.

Second interview... did the A4 enelope have anything in it about what the next interview is all about. Because (thinking positive) we will hopfuly be preparing for that one together too.

I have Sunday off work so all my last minute prep will be happening on that day, so don't be surprised if you get a call (or ten) from me then.

Talk to you soon

Hi Guys,

Sunstate second interview date is TBA....they haven't told me...they said they will contact me. The only thing is that I am off to Fiji on 19 January for a well earned rest, I told them this at the end of the interview as a courtesy and they said they will work around it should I be successful for a 2nd interview as this process can go over a 3 month period.

Santa's helper - thank you so much for your help, some of the things we talked about helped me a great deal in the interview process and I cant thank you enough....I really mean it. :)

Hi everyone,

Well I have just arrived home from my Sunstate interview... and I don't feel very confident. I became quite nervous as soon as I walked into the interview room--which is strange as I am usually quite sure of myself. Maybe it is a reflection of how much I want this.

Oh well--- now for the wait. I hope they understand that I was a little nervous and underneath those nerves beats the heart of a true F/A.

If anyone form Sunstate is reading this please let them know that I would be perfect for the job and would make them proud to have me as part of their team!!!

16th Jan 2002, 03:10
Thanks for your words of encouragment Biccy C. But I know how cool, calm and collected I was for the Qantas interviews-- well this was totally the opposite. I even caught myself swiveling (very slightly) on my chair.

But it's OK. At least I know and understand why my rejection letter will arrive in the mail over the next few days..... This is not a negative attitude-- this is reality.

I also stuttered, paused in the middle of a question (my brain stopped thinking right in the middle of a train of thought), I think the tremble in my voice would have registered quite high in the 'ricter scale', not to mention one of my answers was a little silly ( now that I think about it).

Although other than the chair swiveling thing, my posture and body language was pretty spot on -- looking people in thier eyes, facing the person who asked me the question, standing tall, and I smiled at everyone who was within a 10km radius of me-- and I looked pretty good if I do say so myself. (Thanks to last minute foils in my hair the night before to fix up a recent 'brunette to blonde' disaster! )

Anyway it is not the end of the world- and 'yes' my friend you will see me in the skies- maybe a little later than sooner!!

I just have to mention that if anyone else has an interview with Sunstate---they are really lovely people so there is no need to be nervous-- really!

Any way...goodluck and if worse comes to worse and you get a "no" letter...just put it down to experiance....

Thanks Cabinboy for the positive 'brain-bashing', but when we spoke right after the interview I think I was suffering from-- " I know I can do this job, and I am very very qualified not to mention very passionate about it. Therefore they can see all this when not getting dizzy from all the chair swiveling." syndrome....

Lucky I know what a good and what a bad interview is-- and therefore are not getting my hopes up for this. But don't worry I haven't totally given up-- maybe Sunstate is very familiar with the symptoms of the above syndrome and are going to give me a second chance to prove myself!!

Smile,

I feel for you mate, but as others have said, your positive attitude will be what gets you in one day. It may not be Sunstate, but there is a lucky airline out there waiting for you.

I dont know you as well as the others, but you really deserve a break, and I just wish there was something we could all do for you.

Its times like this that make me realise how lucky I am to have my job. I hope one day, very soon, that you too will feel the joy that your dream job will bring you.

Until then, please stay as lovely as you are. You, along with all the regulars in this post are one in a million. Cloudy just got in, and you are next. Stay positive, believe in yourself and use this as a benchmark for this year. Its still only January and its going to be a long year, full of many changes..and they will all be good.

Hey Cabin Boy, I followed your story for a while and would like to know what happened with your interview. I was visiting their HR last week with my husband (he had an interview for an F\O position and I sneaked in with my CV!). They told me they recently hired something like 7 or 12 C.C. (not sure abt. the number) 'cause they got more aircrafts. I wonder if you are one of them.......

Hey FloatJockey!!!

Hope all goes well with your husband for the F/O position.

Would I be able to get him to email me about what happens at the interview, his qualifications etc ...I have applied and just wondering what experience they are looking at before inviting people to an interview.

Thanks in advance..

Well JetRacer, if you have 5000 hours, PIC experience and a 737 NG endorsement (that did cost you over 30'000 A$ in September 2001) and ask for a job at Sunstate, they'll probably tell you what they told us: "You should work for VB! How'z it you come here to look for work?" . .The point is that VB doesn't give a damn about my husband and we cannot understand why. . .Well, long story short, these people are great even when they say no. If you are lucky enough NOT to have a 737 type rating, then you might have better chances!. .Good luck!

By the way, did anyone apply through seek.com.au for casual pitcrew/check-in staff at sydney airport, posted 3 days ago? Not that I fancy staying on the ground but it's another way to "sneak in" :) :) . .I e-mailed my resume, called the guy but only got to talk to the switchboard to find out they were submerged with requests and that they would let me know shortly... (Sounds pretty classic... anyone who tried the VB switchboard knows what I am talking about... . .Any info appreciated!

Cheers,

Cabin Boy - well done you! Yourself, Kely and Cloudy have started the ball rolling and am sure it's now just a matter of time for the rest of us. Big cheer and all that.

FloatJockey, I applied for the ground crew job as well. Apparently they have had over 400 applications for only 5 casual positions. Mystified over which airline it is though. Anyone know?

Thanks for the info Kem. Unfortunately they never came back to me... who knows...

I really start losing hope... maybe I didn't try hard enough or my background simply sucks (dive instructor), buuuh...

Anyone with something POSITIVE?

What about you Cloud 9? I read you are stage 2/medical? Did you have previous C.C. experience?. .How is it going?

hi there all,. .Been reading your posts about ground staff being advertised. i too applied for this position. advertised in the local paper (St George and Sutherland Shire) thru a recruiting agency, rang agency to ask what happened, said that Virgin blue had already filled positions, not using applicants from agency...was told 400 applicantions sent in, and 15 positions available.. .Miss22..any news from QF..me none.

Hi T.-D., thanks for your info. I got the envelope today in the mail. It is R.C. The course is very expensive: AUS 264.- manual incl. I don't think I can afford that.... .The info I got (the 7 pieces of paper enclosed all look like adds for cellulite cream by the way...) say:. .- vb is expanding australia-wide (Darwin and Tasmania) and is recruiting! (really?????). .- Eastern (Q-Link) is accepting applications for future positions based in Sydney.. .- Also: there are many overseas based opportunities available . .and the best: "Let R.C. help you GET THE EDGE"!

Also loads of personal comments from successful attendants saying "thank you, you have changed my life..." blah blah...

Not for me.
