Must be soon - last seen in the flight line at Marignane sporting its new CHC paint scheme, which I must say is a big improvement on the "pizza in the face" current scheme.

It's ready for delivery, but have heard rumours that there are "paperwork" issues delaying it.....

Would that be money or certification paperwork problems?

They painted the bird on backwards.

Eurocopter giving CHC the bird? Must be cashflow problems!

Does anyone have pic of the new bird in its new paint scheme. Wondering what they've gone to ... a slick wavee corporate look paint scheme? :ok:

Its along the lines of that on their S92 G-CHCK though, not being a fuselage derived from the Shorts 330 :yuk:, it looks better on the 225. I think there is an L2 at aberdeen with the same new scheme.

Well I sure don't want to get into the fray with HC, but I doubt anyone will even notice the paint job.......they will be too busy looking at that ugly grey afterthought under the nose

This one may look better but you have to be an artist's impression to fly it.

That grey bit stuck on the front of the 225 does looks like it came out the left overs bin at British Leyland, though.

Ah yes,

but at least it is very well stuck on, which means that you can deploy the floats before ditching, unlike some other helicopters.

HeliComparator

Well said Overt

225: float arming speed 150kts, can (should!) inflate before ditching, certified to sea state 6 as standard, unlikely to require to ditch (30 mins dry run time).

S92: float arming 85kts(?), cannot inflate before ditching, sea state 4 as standard, only 6 with optional extra bags (which were not available for early deliveries), more likely to require ditching (no dry run time with dodgy crack-prone gearbox)

Take your pick.

So, how many have they sold, again?

So, how many have they sold, again?

Who? But I think about the same as the other lot. The Shorts 330-lookalike of course being much cheaper (and we are starting to see why!)

Only pulling your leg, matey!:D

Have you ever flown a non French machine, out of curiosity? I only ask because you seem to have a very (for wont of a better description) narrow minded outlook to anything not Eurocopter.

Shorts 330 lookalike?

The option is a Puma lookalike that has been around since Sikorsky designed it for Sud-Aviation!

If Siko designed the Puma for Sud Aviation, why they never use the technology for their own A/C?
I think about M/R blades mounts, or engine removal a few more easier than on Siko's....:ok::ok::ok:
Enjoy!

And, if well informrd, the first 225 are supposed to go to Nigeria!:D

I'm sure your facts and figures are correct HC, my comments had nothing to do with the capability of one machine over the other (I have no real preference) just the visuals.....and I stand by what I said, an UGLY grey afterthought.

OffshoreHeli

They are not designed to be pretty just safe in the event of ditching. I could not give a monkeys how ugly there are as long as they keep me afloat.

Outwest

Of course you are entitled to your opinion but if they are ugly (and you could be right!) I don't care because I can't see them when I am flying and its function over form for me - ie I don't care what they look like as long as they function well.

Brand x has nicely faired in floats so it looks smooth but in the functionality stakes, they are not as good

Unstable Load

Yes, S61, S76, S92 (just 1 flight), Bell 47, Bell 206. Not narrow minded, just retaliating against a certain former project manager of a shorts 330-lookalike's narrowmindedness (and commercial interest)

Actually just noticed one big problem with CHC's new scheme. The 225 is a great helicopter but boy does it have a dirty exhaust (and engine oil consumption to go with it). So I suspect its going to be really difficult to keep the white paint on the tail area white. Better get in stocks of detergent and issue pilots with scrubbing brushes...
