Our friends (?) at Canada Post seem to be trying to perpetuate the English-French thing which raises its head in certain parts of the country from time to time.

On this page (http://www.canadapost.ca/business/offerings/addressing_guide/can/international-e.asp) one reads:

For mail addressed outside of Canada and the U.S.A., Canada Post's mechanized equipment reads only the name of the country. Therefore, the country name must be spelled correctly.
See "Country Names (http://www.canadapost.ca/business/offerings/addressing_guide/can/country-e.asp)" for a complete listing and spellings.
The name of the country must be the last entry on the address. It is placed at the bottom, below the municipality/city name and any postal code/zip code information.
The name of the country must be spelled in full. Ex.: ENG. is not acceptable for GREAT BRITAIN.

If you click over to here (http://www.canadapost.ca/business/offerings/addressing_guide/can/country-e.asp), you'll find Great Britain duly listed. Scotland and Wales, too. Northern Ireland's there. Jersey? Yup. Guernsey? Mmm hmmm. Even the frickin Isle of Man is there. Please be advised, though, that, in the all-seeing, all-knowing eyes of Canada Post, ENGLAND DOES NOT EXIST. Neither, it would seem, does the United Kingdom.

Ba$tard$.

I blame the French, of course.

:* :( :suspect:

Changed some $$ to pounds for a trip to Blighty this past spring. The Majestic Bank of Canada finally found the correct exchange rate listed under Royaume Uni.

"Royaume Uni"

Only other place I've seen that used was in the Eurovision song contest (when I last watched it about 15 years ago).
