CAA seat pitch minimum 2003

I have heared that as of Jan 1st 2003 CAA regs will require that all UK airlines operate with a minimum seat pitch of 32 ins is this correct ???

Not sure if its correct, but its about time. Being 6`2 try getting into a seat pitch of 29" is not only very uncomfortable, but if I was a farm animal it would be illegal to transport me with that much space provided.. .On average people have grown taller over the years, nothing has been done to accommodate tall passengers. Airlines especially the charter operators continue the banter that holidays would cost a lot more. OK well people don`t mind paying more, so give the paxs what they want. I doubt that knocking out 3 or 4 rows of 6 a breast would put the price up that much when spread among all the paxs going to that destination.. .However, its profit profit profit, to the point the airlines advise healthy flying cutting down on tea coffe and alcohol, drink water. Once water was free, NOW its charged for by some carriers. Oh well, cabin crew push those scratch cards harder now please! <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

There's another thread running in a similar way in Rumours and news, entitled "court win may change..." This (later pages) relates to a report commissioned by the CAA into seat spacing as it relates purely to safety. Scary stuff.

You may also want to check out Todays Sunday Times tavel section, which highlights the rarely known fact that in many cases a seat pitch of 28" actually means 26" or less of real legroom.

Thanks for the posting, but do you know (or can you indicate) the source of your info. Just curious?

The source that told me was a senior crew member in Monarch who were in formed by their managment that seating because of new regs on a 757-200 will have to be reduced from 235 to 218 seats in jan 2003
