Hello Cabinboy, Dreams, Cloud Nine, Biscuit Chucker, Ditch, Doohan, Sweet'n' Innocent, Wirraway, Mr Seatback 2. And welcome to anyone new!!

This is our new thread!! We have obviously shown that we are a great team together and have a lot of information and encouragment to offer each other, and I didn't want it to end because we have reached our thread limit! (again)

This thread will be dedicated to sharing any rumours about who is recruiting, what happen at the interviews and anything else that may help us get our dream jobs. Also we are lucky to have the likes of Biccy C and Mr S 2 and Wirraway among us to get the inside goss!!!

I am going to get the ball rolling by asking what everyone does for a job. I have found that their are alot of common attributes in my job that are parallell with Cabin Crew jobs.

I work behind the bar and in the gaming lounge of a busy hotel. I spend most of my day cleaning up the mess of punters (ashtrays and glasses) as well as constantly answering the buzzer to get drinks and to answer any questions. I also spend half my day talking on the microphone ( I am surprised I have any voice left some days.)

What I enjoy the most about my job is the exercise (I'm not kidding it keeps me slim!), and once a month we have a big themed party where all the staff dress up in costume -- I have been a witch, devil, robot and beachbum in the last few months-- and entertain the punters with lots of games, food and drink.

What I find the hardest about my job is that because alot of people come into the hotel alone, we staff become the outlet for their problems. Just yesterday I commented to a lady that I hadn't seen her in a while-- she replies that she had recently had an operation, her son-in-law passed away that same day during an operation and her husband died 10 days later. I leave work some days totally emotionally drained. :(

Anyway I am eagar to find out what everyone else does for a job and how you think that will benefit your future ambitions.

wow Smile...what a busy gal you are at work!!! After reading how you described your work, i feel that you definatley have all the qualifications for a F/A.
Well here goes for me..
I am a qualified Hairdresser, I did that for 6 years, I have also done retail, barwork,waitressing, been a "door bitch" for a nightclub and now Im in Customer Service in a call centre....oh and my crystal ball tells me that Im going to be a flight attendant next year!!!!

Wow Cloudy, what an interesting job history. if the airlies can't find all the right qualifications in that history then you are too good for them.

I have to say say that having grown up in hairdressing salons ( my mum is a hairdresser) that you guys must come home more emotionally drained than us bar persons. Talk about being an agony aunt. Not to mention all the cut fingers you get from all the little kids who can't sit still. Maybe you should mention in your next interview that because of your hairdressing experience you have a great nack for getting little kids to behave and sit still!! :p

hi there all,

Hope you all get the jobs your searching for in the newyear. All the best from sunny Scotland, where the countryside is stunning and the views from the a/c after takeoff going over the west coast and ones always to be remembersd.
Have a merry xmas and newyear. :)

Hello…, Dreams, Cloud Nine, Biscuit Chucker, Ditch, Cabinboy, Sweet'n' Innocent, Wirraway, Mr Seatback 2, hope I haven’t missed anyone!

What an excellent idea Smile. Personally... i feel that we will all be flying together one day, and with the attitude we all have, I think it will be sooner rather than later.

Now…. As for what I do for work! I currently work as a Corporate Suites F/B Supervisor, previously as you all know by now… I use to be a Flight Attendant with Ansett Australia, hopefully with the new Ansett; I will get that opportunity again, as I felt it was the best company to work for (My Personal opnion). It was like a huge family and we were all part of Sir Reg Ansetts family tree. Anyway… where was I, oh yes! I’ve also worked in IT for a company in which I did tech support for. Plus… I’ve worked as a barman at the Casino, as well as the cinemas for a few years. Occasionally On the side for abit of variety, I do a few private functions as cocktail barman/waiter!

So there, now you all no abit more about me!!!
Have a great weekend you all....

:D :D :D :D

Hi All

I hope all of your dreams come true in 2002.

I am so very touched by the way you have all band together to help each other out with interviews and motivation. Your enthusiasm is outstanding.
I'm a F/A, have been for about 3 and a bit years and like you guys and girls always knew I'd be perfect. But convincing a total stranger of this in a few fleeting moments was verrrrrrryyyy difficult.

I beleive if you want something bad enough you'll get it.

i know you have all tried VB but have you considered the QF regionals- Southern Easterns Sunstate Impulse or National Jet.
With the first 3 you can get to qantas mainline in about 3 years and the regionals are expanding very quickly. Working alone is fantastic you can have such a ball.

Anyway all the best to you all and goodluck in 2002

;)

NEWS NEWS NEWS

You know - there's nowhere else on this site that's anything like the warm and fuzzy nature of this one...Love your work girls and boys...

NOW FOR THE GOSS!!!! :) :) :)

Impulse (who are now totally owned by Qantas) and QF have engineers and big bosses in Seattle (Boeings home town) kicking the tyre of a few 'fire sale' 717 aircraft.

This is the deal - 7 aircraft to arrive by April/May 2002.

And this is the clincher...Brisbane base to open requiring 100 flight attendants to operate Brisbane - Rockhampton, Brisbane - Mackay, Brisbane - Proserpine, Brisbane - Cairns - Darwin...and who knows where else!

3 aircraft ex-TWA cancelled orders, the others the same (though don't know where from)...

Very reliable source that continues to gather momentum EVERY DAY (everyone knows about it at Impulse...name soon to be changed back to Airconnex)...

Recruitment expected to begin around February next year if all goes to plan - QF still in discussions with Boeing, but looking very positive...

Thought everyone would like to hear this - since how many other airlines are employing right now??!!

10th Dec 2001, 10:48
Just speculating, but could the Impulse branch of QF be in charge of a certain new low cost International carrier to be owned by QF.

Either way there is plenty of room at my house for anyone needing a bed for those interviews!!! :D

Like i said we are all going to become Cabin Crew in 2002!!!

hey everyone, hope you are all well, I have gone to the extreme measure of applying overseas now!!! but i know i will get there and i know all you's will to. I've been told it is alot easier to get in overseas so we can only try.
Well with work i was in the travel industry and due to sep 11 and ansett i no longer work in travel, and now working in customer service in a call centre.. its a good job, cutomer contact everyday and the people are great.
well take care everyone, and i'm thinking of you all.

Well - now with Australian Airlines it looks like good news for ALL OF YOU!

As for us Impulse types expanding like mad, send your resumes to:

Michelle Despas (surname WAS Lewis, since married), Manager HR - Flight Crew, Impulse Airlines, Eleventh Street, Mascot, NSW, 2020.

OR email at: [email protected]

You will more than likely go on file but they do give you a shot at a group interview (eventually!) - and me thinks February when they start to look for crew again (fingers crossed)...

Send a covering letter, resume and photo (even if sending via email)...

A word of advice for everyone wanting a bit of the Australian Airlines action...Please don't ring the QF staff. Poor dears are going out of their mind answering employment queries...employment won't begin till at least middle of next year, and even then details will still be finalised (even though it's a part of QF, it's still a separate company just like us and Eastern...so it needs time to set up)...

I know you're all keen as mustard, but please...a bit of patience!!! (Cabinboy I'm sure can attest to this!!) :D

You took the words out of my mouth Mr Seatback...suprising really considering it was you who was having trouble constructing sentences at your B'day party in SYD on sat night....or hang on a minute....was that me ? :D

Yes, Please don't call us at QF re AA !...no more Australian Airlines enquiries please ! I will be sure to let you know the details as soon as I know, I got all the photos of the livery supplied to me at work just b4 it got announced and it looks great. Because AA won't be flying till sep 2002 we all need to sit tight on the cabin crew announcement - it's a while away yet.

As far as I can tell our chances for recruitment in 2002 are with these carriers-
* Eastern Australia
* Sunstate
* Impulse
* Australian Airlines
* Ansett Mark 3 - fox/lew
* Virgin Blue
* Emirates

Warm Regards to all,
Cabinboy - " No madam we are not actively recruiting for Australian Airlines flight attendants at presnet, but thanks for calling Qantas...Goodbye ! "

Its always interesting to find out the different paths people have taken to become Flight Attendants.
One of the strangest I heard of was a F/A who used to be a Funeral Director.
My friends I work with here have been a snowboard instructor, lifeguard, PR consultant, carpenter, and a DJ.
I used to be a soldier, then firefighter, then ambulance officer.
We all came from really different backgrounds, its bizarre that we all now work together.

Hello everyone, well I have just been reading another thread in Cabin Crew about VB. And I now know why we didn't get in-- we are not gorgeous enough. HEHEHEHE

Oh well!!! :D

I've stumbled onto this thread by accident - actually I'm having a really boring afternoon at work - and I just want to say how nice you all seem to be. Usually I stay on the Dunnunda thread (mostly pilots) and they are AWFUL!!! They slag off at eachother and wind eachother up, and generally exhibit very little sense of cameraderie or solidarity. This is such a pleasant contrast. Well done, and may all your dreams and aspirations come true in 2002.

PS - I do have an interest in aviation but am neither a pilot nor a FA.

Hey everyone...
Just to add to Cabinboy's list....
Add National Jet Systems to that list of recruiting airlines. Lots of rumours flying there & would expect a ground school in about April....so get your resumes in there pronto! :D

Hi,

I have to agree with what "djembe56" said, I normally stay mainly on Dunnunda too, but it is not a very nice Forum lately.....

Only difference is that I came to have a look here because of a very nice email I received from "smile".

All of you seem very pleasant and motivated, much like all the cabin Crew, and other people, at Compass.

Sincerely hope that all of you have your dreams come true in this Industry,

Best regards,

"lame"

Lame,
You are correct, when I joined this message board in 1998 it was a bit "cut throat" and boring, but since the start of this year things have changed. We now have a bunch of genuinely caring people who care for each other personally and career wise. We are a great team when it comes to collating our knowledge of interview questions and recruitment gossip together. When I recently got invited to a virgin interview I was "bombarded" with emails of well wishes from ppruners, and when I got rejected I was "bombarded" with emails of support telling me to keep my chin up. It is so great to have so many good friends on here who all care for each other. It gives me even more reason to believe why everyone on here will make great airline personnel sooner rather than later.

Long live the pprune cabin crew forum members of 2001 !! GOOD JOB.

Merry Christmas !
:)

Hello all

I didnt want to start a new thread for this as it is not that exciting, but had to let you all know anyhow. VB advertised today in The Syd Morning Herald for ground staff at Syd airport. They stated that you must apply on line. I had already done this months ago, but during the week received a reply saying at this time I was not accepted ect ect ect.
Im thinking maybe cause I had a VB interview 2 months ago???
Talk about kicking a dog when they are down!!!!!!

Cloudy,

They have rocks in their head for not wanting to interview an intelligent and foxy girl like yourself. If it makes you feel any better QF are holding internal recruitment for airport staff currently and I got rejected for even an internal interview ! There were so many internal applications that I wasn't considered. One of my best mates at work speaks 4 languages and all she wants to do is work at the airport, she didn't score an interview either

Airport jobs are just as much sought after as cabin crew, have you thought about emailing somone in virgin HR re airport jobs ? see if you can get yourself on the list in case someone no-shows ?

Hang in there mate, 2002 is the year
