Just wondering if anyone has any opinions about the union company CC89?

Which airlines do they represent?
Have they represented you for anything?
Do you feel they work for you as an employee?
Have they improved the terms and conditions
of your employment?
Do you feel it makes a difference having a union or not?
Are you working for a company with no union and feel it would benefit you from having one?
Any other comments?

Hi

I'm a member of Cabin Crew 89, as are the majority of my colleagues.

Off the top of my head, I <think> they represent Virgin, Monarch, Airtours, British Midland, Brittania, plus a fair few others.
As of yet, (thankfully), I haven't had to use them for representation, but know of someone who has.

As for terms and conditions, my airline are now being "forced" to recognise certain constraints, (for them), such as leave, FTL, and crew rest. Although we are getting a better deal on these and other issues, it is STILL not the one we want - there is a long way to go before such barriers are broken down. This, I believe, is because employers such as chartered airlines have had the proverbial ball in their courts, (regarding employee rights) for a long time; the arrival of this union has, (I think), come as a bit of a shock to them, and old habits die hard.

So yes, my personal opinion is that having ANY union is an improvement on no union at all, (and I don't have socialist tendencies). It does make the employee feel that there is at least some representation and possible protection, should they require it at any time in the future

They provided many Virgin cc with some good support during the, ahem, phone scandal of the mid 90's.

Also cabin crew 89 in BA together with BASSA
www.cc89.org (http://www.cc89.org)

for BASSA see
www.crewstart.com (http://www.crewstart.com)
then look for FA unions link, and go from there.
Yes it makes a big different having a union. Generally, better working conditions, agreements, etc.
They also look at different cabin services to see how it will work.

Do not let anyone tell you that Unions are a bad thing. Times have moved on from the 1970-1980`s. A good example is the railways here in the UK. The Unions fought against privatisation and the Thatcher Government who underfunded the railways because the unions were strong, and were against "that" womans ideas. Just look whos right now!
