............................fortunately for two pilots (poosibly aussies) in PNG a hijack went sour after police intercepted the offenders whom had the pilots held hostage. All's well thank God !
A bank plane was the target with $A2 mill on board.

Apparently the two escorting security guys (reserve cops I believe) where part of it !!!!

Just goes to show that pilots are worth more !!

Not the first time either, MBA DO228 was hijacked in similar circumstances a few years ago. Also a helicopter crash landed in down town Moresby after being hijacked to land on the roof of a bank.

Interesting place :E

Looks like the lads are maintaining a sense of humour about their ordeal...definately a prerequisite in PNG...having said that, and as someone who has been on the wrong end of a Raskal's shotgun more than once, it would have been fairly frightening.

I believe NCA had at least one, possibly two, hijacks of their C402 some years back.

A mate was walking down to the PNGBC from the Travelodge when the 'hijacked' (there was some doubt) chopper launched off the bank's roof as the bankrobbers made good their escape...as it cleared the roof the cops opened up and shot it down...Alex stood there open mouthed as it crashed onto the road not far from where he stood...fill him full of red wine and ask him to retell the story...Funny? I laughed so hard I cried.:}

Yes Chuck, but on that occasion, the cops had been tipped off.

Of interest.Hevilift got done over in Moresby the same day as the Hijack.There had also been security warnings to the operators several weeks earlier that something was going down!
