Hi everybody http://www.pistonheads.com/inc/images/wavey.gif first time poster.....Im a motor mechanic who is completely fed up with the motor trade and having been interested in aviation for as long as I can remember, I want to move into an aviation(pref rotary wing) engineering/maintainance trade.

The trouble I am having is that i dont know where to start looking http://www.pistonheads.com/inc/images/confused.gif . I know I will need training and I am prepared to take a drop in salary but I dont know if these oppertunities exist.

So anyone in the trade fancy helping out with info on where to look(or a jobhttp://www.pistonheads.com/inc/images/biggrin.gif) it would be very much appreciated. Cheers Guys

Hi there,

I managed to find the following link, it may be of some use. I know that some of the helicopter groups in Aberdeen such as Bond, Bristows, CHC Scotia etc do have an apprenticeship scheme running from time to time. You may get some helpful information from them :)

Craigvee

First of all welcome. Below are addresses/contact numbers
for CHC and Bristows. They both have vacancies for qualified/
unqualified blokes in Scotland at present I think.

Its quite a challenging career in aircraft maintenance (I think
even more so with rotary wing) and to gain the skills needed
and become fully qualified - BUT - it is good fun and rewarding.
Somewhere on the planet, some of us are even decently paid!

Give CHC and Bristows a call and see what the options are.
If there are not any straight forward answers (commonly
plagues this industry), there are plenty of helpful bastards on
this site and I'm sure we can assist further.

Regards

Craigie,

Also Bond may be willing to talk to you, they have taken mature apprentices from various skilled back grounds in the days before the merger with CHC.

Lots of the old Bond Engineering management are now at Bond Offshore in Aberdeen, shouldn't be hard to get in touch, alternatively their sister company Bond Air Services has a couple of operations in Scotland with aging workforces.
You can contact them on 01452 856007, they could probably give you the number for the offshore boys as well.

Good luck.

Thanks guys....I will be giving them all a call tomorrow. I was also given an e-mail link to a company called http://www.licencebypost.com/index.htm, ever heard of them??
Do you think that my chances would increase if I offered to put up the costs of the licence training?
Again,thanks guys very much appreciated.
Craig.

Wait till you see the reponses. At the moment they are so short of people that they will pay for training.

Trying the go it alone route will be expensive, difficult and lonely!!!!!
