G'day guys,

quick q,

If a multi crew turbine a/c is going to take off from a rwy with light spacing at 90 metres what is the t/o minima is it 0' 800 metres vis?? I know you can't use 500 metres because your light spacing isn't 60 metres. In the DAP's it says for a 2 pilot, or single pilot turbo jet ie c500 or autofeather equiped b200 less than 5700kgs or greater than 5700kgs ,but it doesn't specify the light spacing needed for 800 metres vis??? is the t/o mins then 300' 2km vis?????:confused:

Says it in pretty plain black and white to me (barring all the extra bull**** to consider), ;).

If you're in a two crew aircraft, or a single pilot jet/turbo-prop with operating autofeather, be it above or below 5,700kg's, provided it can climb at 1.9%, then it's 0' ceiling and 800m Viz when you've got greater than a 60m light spacing, :ok:.

60m light spacing or less, then 0' and 500m's. Easy, right? :}

That's the basics. There's a lot of other things to consider such as ensuring you're going to maintain the correct obstacle clearance etc., crew training (for multi crew one), a lot of other nonsense.

So in essence, something like a Piper Chieftain, even if you operated it 2 crew, the chance of being able to actually obtain that 1.9% gradient in the event of an engine failure is very slim. Could almost say that for any piston twin. So those take off minima's are really only suited to turbines.

Sometime's, it's just common sense as to whether or not you go though, :ok:. No good saying you can do all of the above, and then when that donk fails, find that your nearest suitable aerodrome with nice weather is 300nm's away, :E.

Not much fun if you take off in 800 metres vis, then just as you rotate discover you have a FIRE!:eek:

"downwind"...excellent question, there are no 'dumb' questions in aviation !
"Morno"....excedllent answer inc all the other req's some you mentioned as well as these, such as rwy edge & C/L lighting and markings, the rest, spot on!

Ask away & someone will have the answer in here, that's the beauty of this forum, even tho it may seem complexe as in the written word to some someone has it known correctly

thanks morno,

so another silly q then having a look at moorabbin ymmb in the ersa it say low vis t/o not availabe due to lgt spacing being 90 metres apart, so I pressume you can't do from a theoretical point of view a t/o 0' and 800 metre vis t/o????? you must use the 300' 2km vis then????
