When you are recruited for Air 2000 or Airtours @ LGW are you fleeted like at Monarch ie short and long haul or is everyone trained on all aircraft and therefore the rosters are a mixture?

Can you request maximum nightstops at all?

Have interviews for both in a few weeks and was also wondering which, you think, is the better company to work for (pay, trips, allowances etc...), thanks for any info in advance.

I know that when I had an interview with Air 2000 they said thet we would only be trained on the A320s and A321s, so no long haul. I was out of there like a shot!!! Not sure about Airtours though.

Hi guys - I can't speak for Gatwick, Manchester etc but I used to fly for Airtours in Belfast, and my ex-colleagues are now dual rated on the A320 and A330, thus operating mainly short-haul in the winter, and short-haul plus Floridas in the summer. They often operate W patterns out of BFS - to Sanford, and returning to another UK base, before positioning home. I guess most bases would be the same - I'm sure Glasgow were similar.

Air 2000 temp crew will more than likely be operating on B757/A321/A320, A321/A320 being recognised as a dual qualification now. Potential for UK nightstops. B767 and the longhaul that comes with it is only for permenant staff, anyway summer longhaul programme is not that great anyway. Oh nearly forgot! friendly crewing staff if you don't take the ***s!(me being one!!)

Dear Level 2

Since the Co seems to be inviting Cabin Crew back for interview, as we all knew it would have to, do you have any opinions on a previous post quote

"....it was bizarre and very frustrating, as a demotee, checking in at LGW just before Crimble, to find one of our SFOs waiting with aircraft ready, crew ready and paperwork ready, but no Capt available for the trip; he was simply having to wait until crewing could find one!! And this is Winter! Have we got the numbers game right?"

Well did you find a Capt and have we got the flight deck numbers right and what about the poor bloody engineers?

Toulouse, should you wish to supply further info, i.e. date and flight, I will endeavour to furnish you with an answer. It can sometimes be difficult to ascertain the reason for a late departure unless directly involved yourself. This may not be due to lack of f/deck but something as simple as car breakdown, bad weather and so on.

See Weston's post on the Air2K forum under Recruiting Again?

P.S. How is it at your end? Have all the guys off to Toulouse made a hole in the system or not? Just how many aircraft are we operating at the mo and how many are laid up? How long before we start recruiting again and the 21 pilots shown the door get their jobs back? BTW how long is a piece of string?

Toulouse, still unable to uncover the mystery - sorry more info needed, thread is not specific enough.
Regarding our department, we are currently operating 20 per cent down on Summer 2001 head count. Whilst this indeed makes those lucky enough to have a job busier, as the saying goes 'the show must go on'. We, like yourselves do not know whether we will be recruiting in preparation for Summer 2002.
There is at the moment, it SEEMS, a surplus of B757 f/deck in certain bases. I stress 'seems' for if you take tomorrow's programme in MAN as an example, we have only 1 B757 flight and 6 A321/A320. We have 2 B757 available for the day!

The currect fleet numbers 29 with 2 B757 laid up.

With regards to recruiting, I would not like to comment as I am not involved in this area. Speculation / general rumour supplying are not interests of mine, but should your require FACTS,
and you think I may be able to help, then please ask.

Thanks delboy, nice to know the facts since the management no matter the airline are reluctant to tell the coalface what is actually happening. You guys and gals are far more informed than we are.

It looks to me as we diverted from the original question.
It doesn't bother me, don't get me wrong It's only that my grandma used to say that "dirty clothes have to be washed at home" That's why I believe you have a Company Forum...

Happy Landings :)
