can anyone give me an overview of the day to day tasks of a WSOp crewman? both multi engine, and rotary based?
does anyone know what the aptitude tests are like for WSOp crewman, and what sort of things you need to be able to do well to be selected to fly on helicopters?
do they need to score as highly in the leadership tests at OASC as a person applying as an officer?
thanks,

Get your local Careers Office to arrange the day visit to RAF Cranwell where all your questions will be answered by those in the know. A letter to the Civil Admin Officer at Shawbury could also get you a similar visit to Shawbury.

Be advised though that Helicopter Crewman are not recruited as such, but WSOp (rear crew) are, and inside the brackets could be written Nimrod, E3, and fixed wing transport aircraft (VC10,C130,C17,TriStar) amongst others. Not all bad news though for at present most go rotary and the harder you work the more likely it is that you get your choice.

There are on-line pages that 'advise' you on passing OASC, but by far the best way would be the visits mentioned in para 1. You will need to be phsically fit and in good health including eyesight. The more information you glean about the job, operating locations and current affairs the better your chances at interview.

Trainers, TXT SPK & Baseball Caps are a good way of staying where you are.

If you score that well and have the relevant qualifications, they may well 'persuade' you that you should be an officer.

Aptitude pass scores:
Pilot 110
WSO 120
WSOp 90

Officer ATC + Fighter Crontroller 70

For other officer branches no aptitude scores are required.

I believe this is up to date
