MAS Return to KLIA with smoke in the cabin

I was SLF this morning on a MH flight from KUL to ICN, after about 40 min, smoke was filling the cabin, the aircraft turn back to KUL. The pilot used the cargo hull fire extinguishers. Fire brigade ready on the runway. Uneventful landing. Anyone has more news? Thumbs up to the crew that did a great job, being very professional.

No, we did non evacuate, we taxied to the gate escorted by the fire trucks. I found that a bit puzzling.

was the smoke still persistent after landing? do you think you should have evacuated? from your 1st post, it sounded like the situation was well-handled. i guess since everyone walked away, it was a good decision not to evacuate rather than risk injury in an evacuation. had that happened, perhaps you wouldn't be able to make this post from the comfort or your home or room? ;)

You are absolutely right. I am not questioning the decision taken by the Captain. In matter of fact I am just wondering what is the rational behind such decision making. The smoke was almost gone. Once on the way again, since there was not crew change, I asked the cabin crew if they found the origin of the smoke. The answer was not. Of course c/c does not have all the infos that the Captain has, therefore I am not raising any issue about why the a/c was not evacuated. Yes i am also very much glad that we did not evacuate the a/c, since injuries could had happed. Please take my posts only for my personal knowledge of the decision making in such situations.

For your info, it was the second time that the a/c (A330-300) had to return to KUL caused by smoke warning in the flt deck. The first was on 12 Nov from KUL to MNL when the warning came on and the crew declared an emergency. The a/c landed uneventfully. After going through with Pratt and Whitney reps, it was found OK. Unfortunately, it had recurred on the way to ICN. On ground, MAS Eng found the cause was from APU oil leak seeping through bleed duct. The crew never reported about any smell though.
