Anyone out there work for Impulse? Heard their rosters are pretty heavy going and they don't treat their crew too well. Think they're recruiting but unsure whether to have a crack as they don't have a good rep. :D

Dear Kem,

Before the QantasLink contract, yes, the conditions weren't the best. Since then they've brought on an EBA which gives them a monthly limit of 140 hours, with a general roster including 125 hours.

A F/A earns $35,000 approx incl all allowances, super etc but not including meal allowances. Overnights can be either 1 to 5/6 in a month (as in 2 or 3 day trips).

It's pretty hard going right now - all the aircraft and crew are scheduled right up until the last minute - but everyone's enjoying themselves...I'd apply right now since they can't get enough crew - and let's face it, who's recruiting permanent full time these days?

Are the cabin attendants paid on a block time or on a duty time basis ?? If on block tims, 140 hours is inhuman !!!

Do you get a black and white striped uniform and a chain to match the roster??

Serious, do you really mean 140 hours FLIGHT???

firstly, the $35,000 as far as i am aware does not include superannuation. also on stdby days (available days) crew can nominate to work, meaning they will be last to be called. if called into work, the hours worked will not go towards to total 140hrs per month. however in compensation you will receive A$18.75 for FA per hr and A$20 for purser on top of your basic salary. meal allowance breaks are paid on top of that.

so 140hrs is duty time, from sign on to sign off in a 1 calendar mth period. so i think it is a fair system. also 10 days off per month, if you are asked to work on that day you are paid $250 on top of your basic salary.

meal break allowance is paid if you do not receive an uninterrupted 20 min break within 5 hours of departure time. we are always paid this as we never get the break. turnarounds are too quick and there is never time during flight.

Hi there Impulse Cabin Crew! I'm using this friend's name as I don't have my own just yet. Shown the questions re: Impulse & curious about a few other things:

Is Impulse a good company to work for? ie do most colleagues get on?
Is it contract work now?
What could a purser expect pay wise?
How many holidays per year?
Any Brisbane bases coming up?
How many average sectors per shift?
What other routes apart from BNE, MEL, OOL, HBA?
Are rosters flexible? ie can crew swap with each other & can you request specific days off?
Are you paid extension allowances if asked to extend duty?
Do you have ID travel? If so what?

Thanks for your help! Cheers!

Dear IMDO (shortened version)

Here are the answers to your questions:

"Is Impulse a good company to work for? ie do most colleagues get on?"

Yes - Impulse is a good company to work for - so long as you enjoy hard work and don't mind giving 100% - if you don't, then they have issues (but which airline or company doesn't?!). Yes - most, if not all, the crew get along famously. True, there are the odd exceptions, but the crew base is generally small - so you pretty much always get to fly with the friends you make on the line.

"Is it contract work now?"

No. You're hired as a permanent full time flight attendant. Impulse is contracted for the next 10 years as a QantasLink regional airline. Expansion is underway with Sydney-Townsville direct beginning in October.

What could a purser expect pay wise?

A purser could expect approx $42K per year, not including meal allowances (and super too - not too sure about that one!). Extra too if you're a training or check & training f/a.

How many holidays per year?

6 weeks holiday - 42 days leave to be exact.

Any Brisbane bases coming up?

The only base in QLD at the moment is OOL. All current BNE crew get bussed to OOL airport to commence duty. I believe OOL recruitment is next on the agena (the next training school is based up there, starts next week).

How many average sectors per shift?

4 sector days are the norm, approx 8.5-9.5 hrs on duty - majority without break (although you are paid time and a half and double time after 5 hours if you don't get one!)...some long ones in there too (SYD-HTI return and then SYD-HBA)...

What other routes apart from BNE, MEL, OOL, HBA?

They don't fly to BNE...they fly from SYD to OOL, HBA, HTI, MCY and TSV (early October). From MEL to OOL, HBA and MCY.

Are rosters flexible? ie can crew swap with each other & can you request specific days off?

You can do this. At the moment you cannot bid for trips like you can at QF and AN - but down the track who knows?

Are you paid extension allowances if asked to extend duty?

You are paid relevant overtime pertaining to that shift. Not allowed to work more than 12 hours in a shift maximum (time and a half, etc applies after a certain time).

Do you have ID travel? If so what?

Crew have ID90 travel on all Impulse operated services (eg. SYD-OOL, etc). They do not have ID90 travel on QF mainline services, nor reciprocal agreements with international carriers. The Union is working on this one.

Hope this helps you and anyone else with Impulse questions!
