Anyone have any news of the recent acquisition of EAP by ACL / CMB?

An article in yesterday's La Tribune (http://www.latribune.fr) says that La Poste (The French Post Office) is in exclusive negotiations with Air Contractors and its main shareholder, the CMB (Compagnie Maritime Belge) with a view to a takeover. A previous article mentioned that ACL's offer was actually 7-8 million € lower than Aigle Azur's. However, Air Contractors have been operating A300s on behalf of EAP for a while now (AJA-MRS-CDG) and is very much a known quantity to EAP's management.

Also, with Transavia France taking over most of Air France's charter/leisure business, EAP's management is aware that the PAX side of the business will inevitably wither.

EAP's workforce (and unions), on the other hand, seem to favour Aigle Azur's offer - probably more geared towards continuing the PAX side of business along with their current charter/leisure routes on A320/321s.
A last minute offer has just been made by the Avion Group of Iceland - a substantially higher offer than the other two. They bought CDG-based Star Airlines (now XL Airways France) a while ago but do not seem to have grown its business much since. Their offer might have come too late to be considered anyway.

This being France, however, I wouldn't hold my breath; this sort of decision takes much longer than, say, in the UK.

Cheers

The Post sold its subsidiary, Air Europe Airpost

(Easybourse.com) Times have changed: this former bastion of public service hostile to the privatization expected to endorse today, and after more than a year of discussions the sale of its subsidiary Air Europe Airpost the freight company Irish Air Contractors for the sum of 47 million euros. An assignment that will enable the Post Office to refocus on its core activities and Europe Airpost to fly to new horizons on board new aircraft

There are no more but Aeropostale Post subsidiary, Europe Airpost. The public service is no longer incompatible with privatization. And normally, the heir of Aeropostale should be transferred after a year of discussions with the freight company Irish Air Contractors, a subsidiary of investment funds Belgian Pertercam and the Compagnie Maritime Belge.

An assignment for the historic Post and the ex-Aéropostale

The exclusive negotiations initiated on November 8 have a good chance of success today and should mark the first ever operation of total privatization of a subsidiary of Swiss Post. A formality that will be in the discretion given the opposition of some staff and workers, who nevertheless preferred Air Contractors in the French company Air Azur. The transaction will finally be a government decree, may be appealed to the Council of State.

It is a page that looks for ex-Aéropostale renamed Europe Airpost in 2000 in the wake of her divorce from Air France. Although less well known as Air France, it is nonetheless the second French company with 22 aircraft 16 Boeing 737-300, 2 Airbus A300-B4, 4 Fokker F27 and 400 employees around. In addition to transportation, every night, some 300 tons of mail, which forms the bulk of its business, the company has developed a complementary activity of charter flights during the day, with 16 Boeing 737 convertible. The Irish buyer is committed to preserving jobs and to finance the arrival of two new B737-700 next year and three more in the future, what rechignait group.

Airpost Europe is not a subsidiary of the Post deficit, it displays the contrary good financial health: it has achieved a turnover of 240 million euros in 2006, for a net operating profit of 15 million.

Now, La Poste will pocketing the 47 million raised and to be able to concentrate on the transportation of mail by rail, through the possible establishment of a joint venture with SNCF.

Times have changed: this old bastion of Public service hostile to privatization should agree today, after over a year of negotiations, the cession of its subsidiary Europe Airpost to Irish cargo airline Air Contractors for a sum of 47 million Euros. The deal will allow La Poste to focus on its core business and EAP to fly to new horizons with new aircraft.

There is no more Aeropostale, only a postal subsidiary, Europe Airpost. Public service is no longer incompatible with privatization. The hereiss of the Aeropostale should now be sold, after over a year of negotiations, to Irish cargo airline Air Contractors, a subsidiary of the Belgian Petercam investment fund and of the Compagnie Maritime Belge (CMB).

A historical deal for La Poste and the former Aeropostale

Exclusive negotiations started on 8th November have good chances of bearing fruit today, and should herald the first ever total privatization of a French postal subsidiary. A formality shrouded in discretion due to latent opposition of part of the personnel, who still preferred Air Contractors to French airline Aigle Azur. The transaction will need to be endorsed by a governmental decree - which could be opposed in the Conseil d'Etat.

It's the end of an era for the former Aeropostale, renamed Europe Airpost after its divorce from Air France in 2000. Less well-known than the flag carrier, it is nonetheless the second largest French carrier, with a fleet including 22 Boeing 737-300, 2 Airbus A300-B4, 4 Fokker 27, and 400 employees. On top of its night airmail activity (300 tonnes every night), representing the bulk of its business, the airline has developped a complementary day charter business with its 16 Boeing 737 Quick Change aircraft. The Irish owner has agreed to preserve jobs and to finance two new Boeing 737-700 next year, to be followed by three more - something that La Poste was unwilling to do.

Europe Airpost is in good financial health, with a 2006 turnover of 240 million Euros and a net benefit of 15 million Euros.

La Poste will now pocket the 47 million Euros sale price and focus on rail mail, possibly by creating a common subsidiary with (French Railways company) SNCF.
