Part 66

Has anyone out there done any part 66 modules up at perth, ie, the weeks teaching and then exam at the end. If so are they any good, Sick of waiting four months at a time to get an exam date from the CAA. At this rate I will have to re-sit passed modules.

We use this lot as our basic training outfit for our apprentices, i personally used it about 3 1/2 years ago for the same reasons as yourself and went once and never returned was imensely disappointed. One of our mechanics used it very recently and was similarly unimpressed, still if you sit and pass your exam then its imaterial. but they set their exams to their course notes. best of luck.:ok:

Disillusioned B1 here, I sat module 5 at AST five years ago nothing flash but got the job done, why bother getting a B1 anymore? Isle of man are validating A & P licenses for aircraft on their register, the end is nigh!

Spoke to the IoM Civil Aviation Assistant Director last week.

It is true. Baines and Simmons do all the legwork for them ie:
researching the individual's AML licences / type courses / previous
approvals etc and simply a validation is issued on top of that.

They do not issue AMLs ie: EASA Part 66 B1/B2 Etc.. They are obliged to recognise all ICAO Type I AMLs (Including EASA Part 66, CASA, FAA A&P)in conjunction with appropriate ratings as part of the IoM 'can do' philosophy. IoM validations are issued to supplement these.

If they weren't so close to us geographically maybe it
could be passed off as a sort of local priveledge, such as Bermuda
or the Cayman Isles.

I'm slightly miffed at yet another standards difference but
strangely hope that they continue to evade the EASA led
attempt of wheel reinvention thats yet to hit GA - £££££££
