Just wondering to convert an Aust ATPL to a HK ATPL do you have to be sponsored by an airline before you can sit the Air Law etc or can you apply as an individual. Or do they apply the UK rules where you have to convert to a HK CPL and then do the HK ATPL exams?
There is no info on the CAD website regarding a conversion. If somebody knows of these requirements could you please PM me.
From my limited knowledge, yes, you need an airline sponsor your HKCAD ATPL exams. They called it Tech exam (CPL) and Nav exam (ATPL).

Yes you need to be sponsored. When you are you will only get a CPL ie frozen ATPL if you have a ICAO ATPL, unless you meet the HKCAD experience requirements for an ATPL already. I can't remember the exact hours but I think it is 2500 tt, 500 true multi crew above 5700 kg and the usual requirement for IF, night etc.

Requirement for the HKG license is that you have a job in Hong Kong. You will not be able to sit exams until then. While there are plenty of jobs in HKG, CX, KA, Air HKG, HKG Airlines, Oasis, corporate jets etc, there is plenty happening in OZ that is more interesting to many here in HKG. Large numbers are leaving to head home.
Air Pollution is a real issue in HKG, and the region. To come here, you would need very carefull consideration with a strong, compelling reason.
There is a chance that KA will offer a pay rise, the first since 2001, KA is no longer a compelling job.
CX is the pick of the crop. A pay rise is coming.
Oasis is trying to make its mark, but a risky career move.
the rest are poorly paid
The corporate scene can be fun.
