Following on Silberfuch's excellent and constructive suggestion, here's another one:
Considering that manning the freighter and keeping its crews happy is probably currently one of CX's most pressing challenges, a cheap fix would be to allow crew to take family members with them on the freighter. This would make those 12 day patterns much more bearable.
The system is already in place, we could just use the jumpseat request function for the relevant flight. The only people allowed would be those currently allowed jumpseat privileges on pax aircraft, ie. those registered in the computer system as our dependants.
The usual excuse "oh but it's not our fault it's the CAD won't let us!" doesn't hold... lord knows we carry plenty of CX managers/engineers/horse minders etc (obviously these would continue to have priority). Plus, if CAD really does have a problem with it, well, if you can convince them to change FTLs for your purposes there should be no problem with this!
Yes there are some complications and bureaucratic problems to solve and details to be worked out in order for it to work, but it's just a matter of wanting it enough and I'm sure it could be done. And considering the ever-increasing number of resignations from the freighter, it would be a timely gesture of goodwill wouldn't it? :ok:
