Does anyone know what is covered in the test and if there is a good book/text out there to help study for the exam?

I have tried a search on here and also CASA's Website.

Oh my god it's the most boring, driest subject in the world!! If you have trouble sleeping at night start reading the FAA Aviation Instructors Handbook. That got me to sleep within 2mins! :ok:

Has anyone got any more info on the exam or advice if they have sat the exam recently?

I sat this exam about 10 years ago and believe it has not changed. It really is a very old exam with content sourced directly from the original FAA Instructor Handbook. The book is about 1970-ish vintage and really focused on a Grade Three level rather than Grade One.

The answers were all multi choice. The exam should only take half an hour or so after having read through the book. :)

I did the exam recently - you have nothing to worry about. By this stage of your instructing career you should have a pretty good idea of the answer anyway.

Read the first six chapters of the FAA book. The exam goes back through what you learnt in your IP&M days.

The exam is not too hard, but some questions are very ambiguous. You will be given an example and be asked to state what defense mechanism, principle of learning etc. it was. So read all the examples they give you in the first 6 chapters.

Study but don't stress!

Mate... what HE said.

Just read the FAA book. It's available online as a PDF - try the FAA website. As someone said you already know your stuff, but if you have flicked through the FAA handbook in the last 3-4 weeks you will be able to ID the right answers quickly and crack a beer before lunch.

It is scary that it is such a simple, superficial exam really. :ugh:

Passed my Exam. Got 94%. I found this American website that offers all sorts of practice exams, including the instructor test. It has questions for each chapter and a final 50 random questions to practice for the real thing. I found it very helpful and best of all it's free. Here it is:
