cant get to grips with the subject

Recommend that you do get to grips with it as its an important subject to understand if you want to be a professional pilot.

Very unfair.

Whilst I agree that a solid understanding of Met in the area you will be operating in is essential, we all know that the JAA ATPL's are a waste of time when it comes to actually learning anything of use.

Memorising pressures for random flight levels, north african winds and indian monsoon dates is just a joke.

Or, how about the charts you are given? If you are lucky enough to be able to read it, it's not uncommon for it to apply to the wrong part of the world. The bit you are interested in is right in a corner (usually too small to read).

The truth is, the exams are primarily designed to make candidates HAVE to put a significant amount of study in. Therfore, you have to memorise a load of rubbish. This makes the exams 'tough' even if you are a brain box with a CPL from outside the JAA.

In reality, they are just a coarse filter to stop any old tom dick or harry getting a CPL.

It is exteremly daunting to look at the volume of material for some subjects and also find that there are over 1000 Q's for it on the OLQB. But it just 'sinks in'.

The best advice is work hard, learn as much of the tripe as you can, mentally vomit it onto the examination paper, forget it and then learn it properly when you start to fly.

Not my advice, but that of a current airline training captian. It's working for me.....
