Just knocked over 1000hrs out in africa, and am looking for a twin job now, any advice on where to look. I have an offer on a caravan, but feel multi is better than single turbine. Any advice?

Those 1000 hours on multi or single? Types? Do you hold a MECIR?

If you have 1000 multi go for the airlines!

unfortunately all single, 95% on c-206. Multi types are seneca, and grumman cougar, but only amount to 25 hrs. And yes mecir, still current ,.....just. Time to get some multi time b4 hitting the airlines. Any advice on places that need multi drivers?

Does the operator that has offered you the Caravan job have any twins?

If so I would jump at that... get used to a slightly more complicated single and then move on to their twins. :ok:

Don't touch a caravan under any circumstances until you have 500 Multi command. Twin time is where it's at, not SE turbine.

Thankyou tinpis, a very helpful and informative reply, especially from a person who is form the land of rivers of grog...
Bare foot flyer, with the way pilot recruiting is in Australia at the moment those sort of hours may well be enough to get you a start with some of the major players in Darwin. I can only suggest you start with Australasian Jet or Hardy's. And before my response is torn apart, there may be errors in my spelling and grammar but i never wanted to be an english teacher anyway!

Gday Barefoot,

I presume those 1000 hours were earned as a swamp donkey? If so I was in exactly the same situation as you about three years ago. Some companies may (for whatever reason i dont know) raise a bit of a brow because you havent flown commercially in oz (maybe you have?) but keep persisting and you'll come right with a twin gig. I did years ago and the industry is alot healthier now.

Im sorry, but I cant answer your question, but I am very interseted in your flying background. I recently read an article in a mag about an ozzy dude who flys in africa now, and absolutly loves it. I was wondering what you need to do/have to fly there. I also have a mate how has flown in the islands going in and out of little strips, and it all sounds like a bit of me.
Any info would be great thanx.

Thanks for all your info and PM's guys. It looks like Aussie is going really booming at the moment. And no, company has no twins, just 206s and vans. Although the money is rediculously good on the vans, its not really great time in the logbook, hense the move.

guess it all depends what direction you see your career taking, whether you are happy in GA or whether you want to be in the LHS of a 744.

If the pay is good and airlines aren't your thing, why rush :ok:

Mmmm... So i sent out a few CV's to varying companys, and no response yet. Is there really a shortage in Oz? Is the best way still to just arrive with CV in hand and talk to them? Even the bigger players?
