In another thread I noticed comments about 1:50. When did the rules change from 1:36 to 1:50 ? Is it the same for jets and turboprops ?

I'm regularly a passenger in Dash 8s. If the rule is 1:50, why do Qantaslnk still run 2 Cabin Crew in a Dash 8-300 ? I thought they would be trying to cut costs.

A further comment. With 2 Crew in a Dash 8-400 BNE-GLT, the service is noticebly worse than in a 300. The shorter sector time with the 400 doesn't help.

Thanks.

The CASA reg is still 1:36 in Aus.
2 domestic airlines however have dispensations to run a higher crew/pax ratio (although not as high as 1:50) on B737 & A320 dependent on some other requirements.

I believe Mak@ir were able to successfully demonstrate an evac of an ATR72 with only one F/A and will crew theirs at 1:50.

Folks,
1:36 never related to anything other than 36 was the capacity of the original F-27 40+ years ago.
ICAO is 1:50, and if you have a look on the CASA web site, memory tells me there is a 1:50 change going through.
