How cool is that...Our national Rugby team fly only on BA, maybe it's about time SAA changed there call sign! Any new ideas???

Not directed at the pilots as they are not to blame for the state of the airline.Just shows the state of the airline and what is going on there.A bit embarrassing if you asked me.

Bafana Bafana also fly with Interlink, SA Idols on Nation Wide, Cheetahs on 1 time etc etc....Looks like SAA only fly there management!:D

For the drivers at SAA however, keep your heads up and we all hope things work out.

Howzit Bokbefok,

Listen I'd sooner have a national carrier that loses money and take Webb Ellis home with me than the other way round. Just enjoy the success mate.

Bafana Bafana also fly with Interlink How does that work when they play on different continents??? Here in the UK the BBC are running some documentaries putting the boot into FIFA.....some serious backhanders there me thinks.

Tower...agreed but the fact as well is that SAA still fly from London and other europe destinations so why not put the boy's on there jet anyway?

New call sign idea....Mamba 232?

Methinks that albeit unintentionally, flying the cup home in BA is really rubbing their nose in it! :}:}

Did you hear Wacky Wackit's joke at Heathrow? He conned Heathrow staff to announce for two passengers: "William Webb Ellis, Kissing @Land Goodbye on SA235, will you please come to the etc. etc." :ok:

BA gave SARFU a better deal at the time. SAA was more expensive. Ask AV8tor, this is a business and SAA's quote was higher. Apparently economics 101 as he puts it.

It's quite sad really when you think (as far I as know), SAA is one of the only airlines whereby the Springbok callsign on the radio is the same name as the national rugby side. Must make one very proud to use the Springbok call sign.

If only the rest of the airline become a proud entity again. What happened to the saying "Proudly South African", when the Springbokke don't fly on the Springbok?http://www.pprune.org/forums/images/infopop/icons/icon4.gif

We mustn't forget that money talks and b:mad:**** walks!! The springboks have been flying on Ba for a while but adverts on tv are actually Comair which is linked to BA overseas (which is a south african based airline, i'm speaking under correction). But it is true that the irony is that we have the trophy and pomms had to bring the boys home with their own aircraft.

I saw that when the english landed, the aircraft carrying them was re-named "hope and glory". i wonder if the one the springboks flew was called "sober and moody" because the english are not very happy that they lost in the rugby, soccer and of course the famous hamilton stall of the F1 in Sao paulo all in one weekend! Ouch!!!!!

Proud of the boys and very proud to Be south african that's for sure! but then again always have been!:ok:

Jeez,

You're assuming SA will end up with a national carrier of more than one aircraft, based on the history of African Airlines.

"Springbok" has been SAA's callsign for a VERY long time. Prior to 1994, all sporting teams or individuals that attained national status were referred to as "Springboks". Post 1994, the name "Springbok" was dropped for all sporting codes with the exception of Rugby. NB: The "Sprinkbok" was started within Rugby, all other sports then adopted the same mantle.

Yes BA (operated in SAfrica by Comair) is the carrier that the Boks use. They won this contract from SAA after SAA screwed around when the SAA/Bok contract was up for renewal and SAA was not able to get their sh1t together. BA stepped in and won the contract.

So, it was by no means ironic that the Boks flew home via BA.

:D Go Bokke !!!!!!!

If I am not mistaken, that was JvJ and AV who thought they were being PC spending money on SAA Supa8 and other soccer ventures and dumped the lillywhite Boks like a hot potato.
It does seem ironic, therefore, that it is rumoured that KN and his team are the ones to have figured out that rugby finals (world cup and super14) equals full planes, while soccer sponsorship in SA has very little benefit to the local airline industry.

BA and the One World aliance have been the Boks' carier for 6 years now, during the previous worldcup as well.

Now that SA is the WC champ surely BA should get some return on their investment?
