It was reported in the local rag that the Police have given all aviation businesses based at the former RNAS Lee-on-Solent 30 days to relocate - all flying will cease after that!
The glider element, as well as the Police Islander and Coastguard egg whisks will be allowed to stay, but all GA will have to go.

The local council are said to be 'outraged' and are going to fight the move.

How is it the police have the authority to do that?

Are you local to the Lee area?

I'm not really local to Lee, living closer to Southampton Airport.
Seeing something mentioned about it in the local rag was a bit surprising, coverage usually doesn't go any further than the SO postcode region.

This was however posted on the Southampton Airport mailing list, courtesy of Keith Grace...

Aviation firms operating from here received an email on the 19th Oct
telling them of a flight ban to be enforced by the 16th Nov.
This decision has been made by the airfield operators, the Hampshire Police,
following a report for the South East England Development Agency, which
concluded that £300,000 needed to be spent boosting safety cover in the shape of air traffic cover and fire cover. Hampshire Police have no money available for this cover, hence a ban on all general aviation activities from here by the November date.
The Police, Coast Guard and Gliding Club activities will not be affected by
the ban.
