What about get yourself down to Jerez and finish your PPL with Fly-In-Spain? They're a UK registered facility so no paperwork hassles and you will get your PPL issued by the CAA at the end of your training.

thanks for your reply.

Yep, I've been thinking about this for the past few days and effectively the only 2 options I have are returning to UK or down to Jerez for a couple of weeks. However, as I am likely to be resident in Spain for a few years yet, I guess once I have the PPL, although it´s a JAA one, won't it it need to be converted here? Although converting an issued licence is much easier....

I do most of my flying in France and Spain. I fly both F- and EC-regs on my UK (JAA) licence no probs. I've also done my night qual in France and had it added to my licence just as if it'd been done in the UK.

that's good news, I thought some paperwork conversion was necessary....

May I ask whether you fly at Jerez or somewhere else? I'd like to find out how many there are and where the CAA approved schools are in Spain.

Cheers

As far as I know, at the moment the only UK training organisation where you can do a PPL in Spain is Fly-in-Spain. There is FTE (also in Jerez) but as far as I know they do not deal with PPLs.

Just to emphasise my previous point, conversion to a Spanish-issued licence is not necessary, and although I have no direct experience myself, from what I've heard, dealing with the Spanish DGAC can be a bit of a frustrating experience at times. The CAA is expensive, but they generally do offer a good service.

For the record, I did my licence is Jerez and found them OK. Other than that, I have no relation whatsoever with them.

Yes, Jerez seems like the best option. I will contact FTE as I did have impression they did PPLs but maybe not. I have also looked at the CAA website for the list of RTO and there is another one BM aviation or something, again though down in Jerez.

cheers, it looks like they are possibly the only option, but seem OK. I will do some further research and get stuck in.

Cheers for your advice

You do not need to convert your UK JAA PPL into a Spanish one to be able to fly in Spain or to continue your training with a Night Rating or CPL, etc, etc, as long as your UK PPL is JAA and not a NPPL (National Private Pilot License), ie. you could have a UK JAA PPL and then get a Spanish JAA CPL, IR, etc, etc.

thanks for this Bubble. It seems like the only option in Spain is indeed Jerez, obtain a "UK" JAA PPL and take it from there!

I've been in touch with F-I-S and if things work out I'll have the greatest pleasure in taking a day off, go to DGAC and tell them where they can shove their licence.
