Has anyone had any problems with cab air trying to get money back off them
In june I paid £8928 to cab air to do my ppl training,but due to personal problems I cannot continue the course im owed something in the region of £6200 so i rang up the head office only to be told the course is non refendable.
I didnt sign any contract or i wasnt told of the course being non refundable. :ugh:
The man on the phone was so moody and it seems like they dont want to no.
Can anyone give me advice on what i can do (if i can do anything)

Of course you can get your money back, Unless as you say signed a contract which clearly stated that it is non refundable then they have to refund you To make claims that money is non returnable they have to provide documentation to say as such and have to prove they gave it to you. Putting on their website that monies are non refundable isn't enough, they have to physically provide the literature stating such conditions.

Write to the head office, pay them a visit personally and also get a smalls claims court action going if all else fails..

Personally I wouldn't stand for it and go to the office and see them face to face and don't leave until they give you your pennies back...

Yes you can get your money back. This is the usual trick they say to try and scare you away, all it does is gives them a bad name and bad press. They have to give you your money back and if they wont a good letter from a solicitor will usually do the trick. Failing that a trip to court will always work. They didnt earn the name :mad:air for nothing - good to see theifcoate and greed are still at work - nothing changes!!
On a serious note - a little bit of work will ensure you get your money back. This is the sort of practise that does the UK flight training community no good at all and just earns everyone bad press.

The problem that you have is that the limit for the small claims court is £5000, so if you go down that route you will be £1200 out of pocket but there is little risk and to start the ball rolling it will only cost £62.

If you go for the full £6200 it will cost you a lot more and if you loose they can hit you for costs.

My advise is to pay a tramp to sit in the head office at Elstree untill they give you the money back, they will give up in hours if the guy smells bad enough!

Just because you haven't signed anything an implied contract still exists...however it depends what you agreed on and if there is any terms of reference which relates to refunds. I would have a look....

If i was cabair..(which i'm not) i would do the gentlemanly thing and refund even as a matter of goodwill (seen as they make a fortune already in hidden charges) as it limits his career chances.

My advice is...if speaking to them dosen't help (and you've looked at the terms of contract) then seek a solicitors letter and take it from there.

The moral of the story is never pay up front especially if you think you may fall on hard times.

P.S. £8900 seems a heck of a lot for a PPL (money grabbing b*stards)

I also stand by the old piece of advice that was given to me before I embarked on my initial training.
Never ever pay large sums over to a training organisation before you begin.
Problem is, a few years ago people were stung when a lot of the smaller schools went into liquidation and left them badly out of pocket.
Another thing that can happen is the service that you receive from these places can be really shoddy, the truth only comes out once you've actually started flying with them, they obviously sell themselves to you in the beginning, but once they have your money it can get a little nasty trying to get it back!(as you are finding out)

Now in your current situation, I feel certain you will get your money back, like others have said, just get a bit aggressive with them and threaten to take it further, they'll probably back down pretty quickly as they certainly don't want any bad press!
