London Calling? the FAA, under pressure from London officials, has mandated that we turn off London data to all customers. As a result, we are no longer able to transmit London data. We can only offer our apologies for the inconvenience: It's not our fault, honest!
Here is a letter from Dimensions International with their explanation and position on this latest development. It also includes email addresses for certain British Aviation officials, in case you want to offer your opinion on this new restriction.>

<Letter from Dimensions International
A letter to Flight Explorer customers about European coverage.

December 1, 1999
To All Customers:
The FAA has advised us that England has advised the FAA that only airlines (even the ones that do not go into England) can receive British ASD data and that we should turn that data off effective December 1 for everybody but airlines. Therefore, unless you are an airline, we were required to delete the data from your feed.

As you can imagine, we are receiving numerous complaints and questions about this matter! We do understand how this adversely impacts planning for the landing sequences, we do understand that the British flights are not delayed in programs, and we understand that your flights are delayed. We understand that many of the fractionals operate more aircraft over more segments than most airlines. We understand that many charter aircraft fly to Europe. We do not know why the British are doing this. We do not know why the British can see American data and flights and why you can not. We do not know why the American Airport authorities, the State Aviation authorities, law enforcement agencies, and other Federal Agencies can not see the data. If you want to know why the British are doing this, and why the British can see American data and you can not see British data, contact the British, the American State Department, the FAA Office of International Affairs, or your Congressman, not us. We are sympathetic and understanding; but, please, aim the broadsides at the right people.

At the British Embassy, the contact is Mr. Stephen James, 202-463-7530, of the Civil Aviation Department. His email is [email protected]. In England, the contact is Mr. Keith Williams, 01144-171-832-6006, [email protected], Director of Air Traffic Operations. At the FAA, the telephone number for the FAA’s Office for Policy, Planning, and International Aviation (API) is 202-267-3033. Your are on your own with your Congressmen.

If you are an airline and were filtered by mistake, let us know. If you are not an airline but feel that you should be receiving the data, it is our understanding that you will have to get an approval from England. We suggest that you start with Mr. Keith Williams.
