We're giving some thought to the use of ACARS VHF/VDL1/2. Would appreciate an insight into the operational benefits and to what extent you are using it, e.g. do you send flight plans, weather, loadsheets etc. Be handy for me to know if you're operating in Europe or the States.

Many thanks

we currently use ACARS to send loadsheets on our A330 fleet at BMI. We also send our loadsheets to the dispatcher and traffic office just incase ACARS fails but in the future we may just miss the dispatch sector out and send them straight to the flight deck.

no sig,

ACARS make our life easlier then ever, we use it on collecting aircraft performance data for Maintance, uplink loadsheet for Load control and passenger info for traffic. In operations we use it to collect data on position report, long range communications (much better than VHF), weather uplink, message relating to reclear operations, recvd ATIS and Clearance (at some airport) and sometime foot ball result :)
We find it safer and clearer then voice communications, as it does not disturb the deck-crew (e.g. in approach, after take-off).

Sai
