When I was a lad in the mid 1950s myfather was in the RAF. At the time we were living at RAF Stanmore Park.
My reccolection is that, at that time, a display of WW II aircraft was mounted somewhere in London (The Mall?) each year - possibly during Battle of Britain week.
The aircraft were stored in crates at Stanmore Park and each year they were assembled there proir to being re-crated and moved to London.
There was, if memory serves, a Spitfire, a Betty, possibly a Hurricane Nd probably others too.
Does anybody know what happened to these aircraft?

Sounds like the Horse Guards Parade exhibition although I don't recall seeing a Betty .

Yes, Horse Guards rings a bell now. There was definitely a crated Betty - though I don't know if it was ever exhibited.

OK, I'll play your silly game. What's a Betty?

While I'm on, ISTR a similar 'exhibition' in Croydon where the Fairfield Hall stands now so we're probably talking mid-fifties.

A Japanese bomber comes to mind?

Betty - a twin-engined Japanese bomber. I would have to go up into loft to find book to get details. Where did these airframes go to?

Wasn't the 109 likely to have been "Black 6"?

As it was the transport variant, I'm pretty sure that the He 111 is the one now in the RAFM.

I remember seeing the aircraft in Horseguards Parade (late 1960s?) and seem to recall that fundraising was being undertaken for constructing the RAF Museum at Hendon. So maybe the aircraft ended up there?
