Company treats you like shiite, constant degradation of conditions, no interaction with cabin crew, ground staff hate you at worst, put up with you at best, pollution is shocking, night flights 1/2 the time etc etc.

Oh it does get better-

Inedible crew meals, Prc Ftl's (read as no limits), smoke filled cockpits/ crew rooms/ briefing offices, no maintenance support, lying/cheating engineers & ground crew... the list goes on. And the contract is signed in China so it means nothing.

Having had the displeasure, 14-15K is nowhere near enough. Good luck to those who pursue this, Cheers

Bloggsy, trot yourself over to to KA house and ask for a familiarisation trip on the Air China wet lease..... a once in a lifetime chance to see all the crap you never thought believable, condensed into one sector!! (And that's just the Dragonair part :eek:)

Seriously, anybody that has flown these trips regularly would vow NEVER to to have anything to do with them ever again. The only positives would be they are definately character building - in the perverse "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" way, and you tend to realise that the grass on your own septic tank may just have a tinge of green after all.

15K AUD per month minus tax..... not really that different from VB or Porn Star is it?? The small financial differential would never make up for the massive operational/cultural/personal compromises you would face daily.

Having said that, it would be interesting to see what is/isn't included in that package.

If you are out of the Country more than six months you will not have to pay Australian tax. 17k a month clear is really good.

It is actually 14K USD tax paid. With the double taxation agreement it is unlikely that any AUS tax will be payable.

That’s actually incorrect. The ATO use a number of things to determine residency status for tax purposes. The 183 day rule is only one of them. Some of the things they look at are:

1. Max 183 days per financial year in Aus, and/or
2. Where you family reside, and/or
3. Your primary place of abode. A hotel room won’t cut it I’m afraid, and/or
4. Do you pay income tax in a foreign country, and/or
5. Do you own property in Aus and do you or your family live in it, and/or
6. Bank accounts in Aus.

If you fail any one of these, and they aren’t exhaustive, the ATO could classify you as a resident for tax purposes. My advice is be very careful if you intend to work for a company that offers commuters rosters to and from Aus. You could be setting yourself up for a fall.

Just to add to Titan's post, there are past instances of people being declared resident of australia, for tax purposes, even though they didn't set foot into the country for two years.

Commuters are all sailing close to the wind - any serious audit will find you resident if you have your family in Oz.

And another wonderful thing about our(aussie) tax system - the burden of proof is on the taxpayer, not the ATO. You need to prove you are NOT a tax resident if they audit you! Good luck doing that if you have family, bank accounts, car, mobile accounts - anything in Australia other than investments! You are able to be resident of two countries, for tax purposes, so even spending more time in HKG than oz doesn't protect you.

all a double taxation agreement does is make tax collection administratively neat. You will still pay tax at the rate of the highest jurisdiction - presumably australia. If china wants their cut of tax, they will take it first and then you will have that amount 'credited' against the total aussie tax bill. So net effect is you pay full aussie tax, but china gets its hands on some of it!

Divorce the wife , buy an apartment in Beijing and fill it with homeless Cabin crew , and get the usd paid into a foreign swiss bank account.
Tell the wife to claim a single mothers pension, and get your mail sent to your best mates address.
that should cover it....................
