Ok, so in this high tech age, can flight plans be filed with IFPS via e-mail. I won't get onto the subject of the JAS system cos that was covered in a previous thread, but it would be useful if fpl's could be sent to IFPS via e-mail. Any info received with interest. Cheers <img src="tongue.gif" border="0">

V9,

This thread seem's to have gone off topic, so in an attempt to drag it back to the original question...

Obviously I can appreciate the efficiency improvements to be gained by having an email FPL filing system, but could you even imagine the chaos if some f**kwit hacker decided to bomb the filing address. Even worse if they knew the correct format and the system started accepting thousands of spurious plans.

The only way to prevent this would be to ensure the current secured and dedicated communications networks provided by SITA and AFTN remain hack free. No hacker in their would want to break into low bandwidth networks but they are and will remain more than adequate for aeronautical style "point-to-point" messaging for many years to come.

whooah, points very valid and thanks for getting us back on tract with the thread. What would happen though if an operator didn't have access to AFTN, SITA or the good old flight plan form. Surely there is a secure way via e-mail.

There is software, which I know we are getting installed very soon that allows flight planning via the net.. I'll try and find the name of it for you.
