So it's official now then - Mr. Ed has just released FCN07-032 regarding Jeddah Ramadan flights instructing the flight deck crew to " meet the cabin crew at the departure luggage area at EOBT - 85 minutes". We are all to be on the bus no more than five minutes later to conduct the crew brief on the ride to the aircraft. This is to facilitate auto boarding at EOBT -45 minutes.

Now that report times (for these flights) are published as 1 hour 25 minutes prior to departure, may we take it that FDP start time (and subsequent limitations) will be adjusted accordingly........?

The current bus time is 70 mins and the FTL dont reflect that so whats the diff

Fatbus, appreciate what you say but the difference is that this is the first time (as far as I am aware) that any direct instruction has been published for us to report earlier than the nominated one hour. Previously, the assumption had been made that the flight deck crew will be on the bus at -70 minutes with the cabin crew. And indeed no one could blame you if you were not on that bus as your report time was only 1 hour pre-departure. Now, it's official that you will be on the bus for these flights 1:20 before departure, and that's a difference.....

Plank Cap has a very valid point. With the increasing number of delays we face every day, what's stopping management extending this edict for several other flights next month and then, eventually,to all flights? A line has to be drawn somewhere........... even if it is in the sand!

Even with the earlier (actual) report time there is no way you are going to go out of duty hours on a JED so while I agree with the principle these aren't good flights to take a stand over (even if we could, which we can't).

Same same................... Bunch of BS as usual. Traffic, EK brief as per FOM, Cabincrew brief, fat chance of leaving CBC STD -85 mins.
Please enlighten me where in the FOM or FCI's there is a reference to leaving CBC STD -70 mins.????? Nope, doesn't exist does it!

How often are the flights delayed due to crew being late? Just curious, cause at GF they came up with an earlier show time that didn't make much difference since we weren't the problem :)

You're right it's not normally the crew that make the flight late, it's the shambles of a baggage system, the remote stands....come to think of it all the stands, and all the interesting 'cultures' that work there:ugh:

The FCI is in effect a change to the FOM for a specific flight. (A sign of things to come). However in this regard it must count towards duty time which in this case is hardly relevant.

It may affect the weekly and monthly limits though those are hard to exceed by design.

Currently no-one can be diciplined if they arrive 61 minutes before scheduled departure. (Jeddah aside) A lawyer would laugh the company out of court if it ever went that far. I dont suspect they would even open that can of worms. Its likely to have bad implications on the whole industry as EK is not the only airline that does this.

Again the company cannot dicipline a crew who arrived 61 minutes before scheduled departure, completed all duties in a timely but safe manner and the flight departed late. Any conflict on this would result in the airline having to prove that this was normally possible - which frankly they cannot.

Its a touchy area for the industry and I doubt either party really wants to go head to head on it. The crew would be likely to win but wouldn't have a job thereafter.
