Noticing regularly that rotary pilot types drive diesels I thought to copy my Jet Blast thread here.
Considering options on a new motor (yippee!!!:}) and a return to oil burning is proving more attractive by the minute. Then I remembered most new VAG diesel engines are designed to tolerate biofuels (veggie oil etc.) and did some research. (May actually break tradition and buy a Citroen.:eek:)
As per the link below HMRC have revised the rules on duty. By using these oils you become a producer but as long as you don't exceed 2500 litres per annum, no duty need be paid anymore.
Off to Tesco and make your oil burner smell like a chip van kids, do your bit for Kyoto but more importantly your wallet!!!!:ok:

I've run my beaten up fiesta Diesel on straight vegetable oil for three years. Sixty to the gallon 70,000+ miles saved a fortune to recoup some of the £90,000 spent on training. :sad: best suited to Bosch pump with individual feeds not a common rail.

Are you sure useage implies production.

Saw a top gear program which compared mileage from biofuels versus mineral fuels and they stated that although it was legal to use vegetable oil, the minute you poured it into your tank, it became motor fuel and thus liable to duty.

That being said, how are they going to check.

I love you Brits, I really do. But this kind of insanity is what made us revolt against your government. Maybe you ought to give that some serious consideration....

If you and try and pay the duty, which was 27.6p per litre. The treasury now sends the cheque back saying its to expensive to administer. Cashing cheques costs too much money, this about sums our government up!

On the same topic i use a German Kit which allows me to start on Diesel then switch to veg oil once hot. I don't advocate throwing vegetable oil straight in the tank. Also out of intrest 80% jet A1 mixed with 20% straight veg makes lovely diesel but that probably is illegal.

This link gives some detail as to the previous and current thinking by revenue on the subject, and yes, you become a producer if using cheap alternative biofuel. Has been discussed in a few motoring mags.

What mix Jet A1 and diesel?
I've been told by my mechanic not to go too strong on the Jet A b/c it's too dry and needs the oil lube in it, but he stated that as he wasn't a chemist he couldn't give me a safe ratio and therefore suggested not to do it. It could be an expensive experiment.:eek:
Any (qualified) ideas?

I have run a Landrover 5 Cyl Turbo diesel at a ratio of 60/70% pump deisel plus 30% Jet and the mix is just about right, works well in Turbo units plus just tried in Jaguar 2.7 twin turbo and also works very well, to exceed 30% of Jet would require additional Diesel Redex or some similar upper cyl lube.

Talking to a tanker driver friend who delivers Avtur, he said that when he arrives, its tested and if it isnt quite up to spec, they just send him off somewhere else and its offloaded as paraffin.
Its just a matter of purity.
