Hello everybody,

Does anybody have info about China Eastern. There is very little on pprune and nothing fresh. They are offering bases on the A340 at LAX and CDG for DEC. Is anybody already in place or is it a new operation from these places?

Any info about airline environment and package offered?

Cheers,

Loc

Reference the pay and conditions as posted for MU (China Eastern) "courtesy" of Brookfield Aviation.

Note the actual cost of the CCQ from A320 to A330 is much higher than it may first appear, Before you ask your family to put a lien on the house for the bond money of 32K USD consider the following...

The going rate Salary/per diems for a DEC on wide-body Airbus is a minimum 2K/mo USD above that advertised for MU. Over the course of the 3 year contract this is +72K USD in potential lost income over next lowest competing contract.

Many of the DEC positions are NET income. Are the Chinese taxes paid on the gross income advertised of 9.4 to 9.6K/mo? For persons based outside of China, domestic taxes are also owed on this income. The net amount remaining for a European/USA based pilot could be very low indeed.

When other contracts have 10 to 14 days at base plus travel days, what is the cost of only 8 days off? Even at the low gross salary advertised this is less a minimum of 300USD/day.

Are there additional travel costs/time to travel to from the nominated base of LAX/CDG?

For non USA residents, is there any protection against further decrease to the US dollar? Cost of living adjustments over the 3 year term?

When is the bond amount charged to the applicant? Failures of the Chinese medical or ATPL written are common. Is the bond money to be paid before or after these items?

Cost of expat medical coverage?

So a few financial items to consider easily amounting to over one hundred thousand US dollars over the three year contract. And when that is completed can the rating be carried over to a JAR/FAA etc. license? Most local authorities require evidence of an approved course, certified "real" command hours and a SIM check with a state approved TRE. So, is it possible to carry over the rating and who is to pay for it?

Perhaps the myriad of other contractual concerns will be covered at the open house. As there are less than 10 DEC's operating the A330 for MU and they are on a different (better) contract, there may be little information forthcoming about "existing conditions". Some of these DECs will complete their contracts and return from secondment to Qantas.

Best of luck to those considering the contract. It could be an exciting adventure. Do keep your eyes open though as other CCQ contracts may have more to offer.
