Does anyone here know the current ground exam pass rates for distance learning ATPL students?
Thanks in advance!

For August 2007:

010 Air Law 95.9%
021 Airframe/Systems/Power plant 97.0%
022 Instruments/Electronics 96.2%
031 Mass & Balance 89.3%
032 Performance 92.1%
033 Flight Planning & Monitoring 82.9%
040 Human Performance 96.2%
050 Meteorology 84.6%
061 General Navigation 79.5%
062 Radio Navigation 97.8%
071 Operational Procedures 97.4%
081 Principles of Flight (A) 84.5%
091 VFR Communications 100.0%
092 IFR Communications 100.0%

This is for all candidates and all papers, including re-sits. When comparing this to quoted first-time pass rates be aware that including re-sits pulls the pass rates down, quoting first-time rates raises them. It is not possible to separate out distance learning results although anecdotal evidence (from Cabair) suggests distance learning pass rates were higher than those for classroom courses in 2006, that may no longer be the case.

Although a couple of years back, I actually found that when I did my ATPLs via distance learning the "distance learners" tended to perform better than the students studying in "house". There are one or two reason for this, 1) those with a strong academic background are more likely to opt for distance learning. For certain the quantity of informatation is vast, but nothing is beyond GCSE level in terms of difficulty level.
2) Full time students (as I remember from university day) tend to waste time, when you are distance learning you make full use of any time you have available to study and hence your study time becomes more effective.
