My father is engaged in an aircraft restoration project and has been given the task of fitting new windscreen and nose glazing panels. New clear perspex panels have been sourced but are all oversize. My question is, does anyone have experience of cutting perspex? Is it a hand or machine process? Any cooling or lubricating/cutting compounds required? Any special precautions to take? The panels are about 4mm thick and for info, the restoration is to static display standard only, not flight. Any pearls of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Prime

Limited experience but I know if you try to cut it too fast, it melts and gets very sticky. It can be cut by hand or with a jigsaw with speed control. Basically, start off slowly, and speed up until it starts to get sticky.

As above, you then finish the edges of with a DA sander if memory serves me correct, will If I remember copy the info for you out of the Cessna manuals..

this will help :)

Further to that, all the FAA info which is more or less what is in the Cessna book is in pdf at the bottom of this link.......

As said a band saw is not always useable as you would never get one of my screens in one
